  • Holiday Shopping, are you using rebates?

    Guys,

Thinking about saving as much money as I possibly can this holiday season when I'm shopping. Ae you guys using any rebate websites, like rakuten?

If I buy online, I always check Raketen first and use it if available. I still refer to it is as Ebates.

I also like checking Slickdeals for things on occasion.

But honestly, we won’t be buying much this Christmas. We don’t have kids and as adults, we just love the season of spending time with loved ones.

Rakuten is good for cash back. RetailMeNot is good for promo codes. Both have browser extensions that pop up automatically which is nice.

Jenn_Jenn, excellent point. If you're not spending money, no app is going to help you save money.

I have like six receipt scanning apps...but the economic value these apps offer is only realized if you spend money, if you're not spending money, they don't do much for you.

Bingo. We shed most of the obligation of a Big Retail Christmas a long time ago. We still exchange token gifts here and there, but we all dislike Christmas shopping and none of us are particularly wowed by "stuff" anymore. Now we do eat a lot together and share spirits, so about the only deals we look for are at the grocery store.
          History will judge the complicit.

Programs like Rakuten and RetailMeNot are great resources all year, not just at the holidays. You can often find discounts or cash back on any online purchases including merchandise, travel, experience booking, etc. Even if you're just placing a routine Target or Walmart order or making a hotel reservation, use those browser extensions. They can save you some decent money.

Ding ding ding even with kids. DH asked me last night are we buying the kids anything? I said nope. we'll give them $50 cash and say have at it. And nope we don't buy anyone else. Actually I bought the lindt chocolate advent from costco $17.49 for both kids, DH and his cousin. He also gets a beer advent i've done for years. The kids used to get lego advent but they said no. So I don't know.

We aren't big for gifting anything. I buy usually 1 big present per kid, couple of advents, and nothing else. No using the rebates. I just don't shop. Although I did just get settlers of catan at 50%. But I bought ticket to ride a couple months ago and we enjoy it. And maybe a puzzle if I find something cool
