Instead of continuing to clutter Steve's thread with my eBay issues, I need somewhere to talk eBay for my own sanity.

I have been doing really well with eBay the past couple of weeks, selling something that makes me a small amount but requires nothing more than me sending an e-mail. For privacy reasons, I can't share details but I my profit so far is a little over $60.

The main reason for starting this thread is because of the insane difficulty trying to notify eBay of a violation. I want to report a seller who I stumbled upon. On his main page, he put a member's private e-mail address because he/she left him negative feedback. I have never done business with this seller, but felt he should be reported. I am able to easily report an item, and did so inadvertently because I was hoping I would be able to include a message. When I try to use the report a violation option, I get to the point where I can click "report" but the button isn't clickable. GRRRRR! I don't want to waste my time calling them, but do want to draw attention to this a-hole for retaliating over negative feedback.

Have you considered emailing the individual of the address released? That makes them aware, and could have more ammo to allow them to go after that Seller on whatever transaction transpired. It also allows them to consider using a different email address going forward to avoid further spamming.

I want to report a seller who I stumbled upon.

As with eBay or anything in my life, if it isn't directly involving or affecting me I could care less what anyone does, I mind my own business and don't put any time, effort or resources into anything other than my own business

I really can't stand people who butt their noses into something they have no business with like my brothers neighbor.... my brother put up a large garage for his boat and his neighbor threatened to report him to the city because he didn't get a permit, my brother had to tell him that the man cave without permit and full of code violations that he loves so much will be ripped down also if code enforcement comes knocking.

Dont throw stones at my glass house, I have rocks too

In regards to this eBay seller, every person that turns a blind eye allows him the opportunity to commit a similar wrong on someone else.

It sure would suck to be the victim of a physical assault, sexual assault or even worse a murder while somone like you is there turning your blind eye.

I have mixed feelings about this.

If the only people who ever reported crimes were the victims, where would we be? If you look out the window and the house across the street is on fire, would you not call the fire department because their house burning down doesn't affect you? Or if you saw someone trying to break in, would you not call the police?

What if your neighbor builds a deck and you know he didn't get the proper permits for it? You'd mind your own business? What happens when your kids are out playing on that deck and it collapses because it wasn't built to code and wasn't inspected?

Should you report an ebay seller (or buyer) who is violating the site rules? As an active ebay seller myself, I'd want that person dealt with because it gives the service a bad reputation which could ultimately affect my own sales if potential customers stop coming because they don't trust the site.

It isn't trivial to the guy who's personal e-mail address is posted on the internet, or potentially the next member that is a victim of his retaliation.

And yes, I care and give a rat's ass about things like this as well.

Although I was raised to care about stuff like this, I was also raised to pick my battles wisely. I don't confront the lazy scum who litter on the streets. It isn't a battle worth fighting. However, I sure hope the day never comes where I no longer care.

Definitely. In the ebay situation, if there was some convenient way to report the seller, I would do it, but I'm not going to jump through hoops and write letters or sit on hold for an hour to do so.

While I have the same mentality overall, I think the original poster was concerned with someone posting additional information on another person without their knowledge, along with violating certain policies.

This example would be a little more extreme, but would you be Ok if someone got a hold of your personal/or work email address and started posted it on a site for adult entertainment? Or what if it was your cell/or land line posted to be contacted? Add another layer, your home address?

While that example is extreme, and you could just change email, overall. But if it happened to me, I'd want to be made aware, regardless.

If you are the victim, ebay is more likely to take action.

If you are an observer, less likely. JMHO.

I wouldn't bother but if you contact the victim, he may bother to have his email removed and likely get swift action.

Otherwise, hardly anyone is going to see the email posted anyhow. And surely, 99.9% of the time, they don't care

you can call ebay, but they likely wont' care unless you're directly impacted by it.

their site is glitch as hell, and I frequently get errors and such. It's amazing how much a mess it is, and they're still the top auction website.

I'm a powerseller with a store, so I do feel your struggle.

Can you link his item and I'll see if I can report? I've reported many fake/fraudulent items over the years.

I used to report counterfeits and obviously fraudster accounts coming from china, but ebay generally takes no action on them until someone gets ripped off and complains. I've checked many times after reporting them, ebay lets the auctions complete. So I stopped caring.

If ebay was smart, they'd have a "power reporting" system. If a user has a history of reporting a very high % of fraudster listings, those users should be taken seriously, and those items investigated immediately. Or at the very least, the listing temporarily halted while ebay investigates.
