  • Current Employer - How long?

As briefly mentioned in another thread, how long have you been with your current employer?

    I'll try a poll too.

    Age 39

    Current role since 2005.

I was going to start a thread when I got home.

I'd also like to know the longest time you were at one job, not just your current job.

I've got almost 17 years at my current job. My previous job, which was my first, I was at for not quite 7 years.

Obviously, age is a factor here too. I'm 52 for the record.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

I worked for the same healthcare system in different capacities for 23 yrs. Now I am disabled. I really miss hospice, my last job, which I did for 11 yrs. I planned to retire from there.

I'm self employed but have had the same client for 17 years in March. My longest at any other job was just over 2 years. I always got the 2 year itch and moved on.

            I'm 51.

I'm at a little over a year and a half with my current company which isn't represented anywhere in the poll so I selected 2-4.

Longest stretch was 6 years with my first company out of college. I have been with 4 companies in 16 years.

Job hopping was lucrative at the professional level and I plan to continue it during my managerial career. 19 years to go and I'd be shocked if I stay with a single company more than 5 of them.

I'm 50, 16 years at current job, 11 years at previous. I had one job right out of college for 18 months and that's it for professional career jobs. I plan to stay where I'm at until I retire or they let me go.

I'm 34. It's been almost 13 years since I finished college. Counting the job I took for 4 months till I could find something in my field, I've had 6 different employers. My longest job lasted almost 5 years and I left it when I was let go after the company was sold. My shortest job was 2.5 months and I left it for my current job because .

I've been at my current job less than a year. I like it and would be happy to stick around for a few more years. But, the recruiters calling with opportunities that would pay 30% more are tempting, as is the thought of leaving the workforce entirely.

I get recruiter emails every single day, and every single offer is for considerably more than I currently make. Many of them would require relocating, which I have zero desire to do. Some are local but I'm not willing to "jump ship" just to make more money. There's a lot more to life than that. I would certainly like more money, but working conditions and how I'm treated are a whole lot more important to me.

That's why I am currently transitioning to part time status at my job and moving to part time status at my urgent care job. More money for sure, but also a much more relaxed work environment, more professional, better support staff, better benefits, and all around less stressful work.
