COVID vaccine passports what will it look like?

Hawaii implemented something like this for Hawaii residents where fully vaccinated once they upload it to the state's registry can travel without a negative test and proof of vaccination. But non-Hawaii residents cannot apply yet until Hawaii figures out a way to validate non-Hawaii vaccinations. Are other states doing this? How might other states do this? Nationally could this be done?

Unfortunately, it will never be done nationally because of how politicized the process has been. Look at the situation with cruise ships. CDC says they can sail if at least 95% of passengers are vaccinated, but Florida's governor passed an edict that companies can't ask people for proof of vaccination. And Florida is the top US cruise port. It's a mess. It's like he doesn't want that business to come back.

I believe numerous countries have already implemented some sort of app-based verification. It wouldn't be hard to do. There just isn't enough support when a third or more of the country opposes it.

Agreed - it won't look like anything here in the contiguous 48. Certain employers will require documented proof of vaccination as a condition of employment. And you may need to prove vax status for foreign travel, but that's probably about it.

I hope they do not get started enforcing this ridiculousness.

After reading this thread, I asked my doctor (since I got my vaccines through the mega medical foundation he works for) if they have a passport, and he pointed me to Louisiana's digital wallet, which now has a vaccine feature.

EDIT: the state health department keeps records of all this stuff, so they could federate with other states. But they won't since Texas is too stupid.

I sort of agree with Texas. Hawaii is in a scenario where it might never be able to validate non-resident vaccination cards. Hawaii must have a way to validate its own residents. But the damage to Hawaii's economy by not allowing non residents who may be fully vaccinated but not allowing them the freedom to travel to Hawaii is taking too long. I would love to make reservations to Hawaii being fully vaccinated but with all the uncertainty and hoops that I would need to jump through makes it not worth it for me. Too much hassles.

What hassles? Hawaii is probably going to use CommonPass for federated vaccination registration; the Louisiana digital wallet can export to CommonPass.

Hypothetically let's say I arrive in Hawaii and test positive, boom automatic 14 day quarantine (and I'm fully vaccinated). Trip would be ruined. Hawaii is serious about quarantine. Hotels call the cops if they know a visitor breaks quarantine. Neighbors report neighbors who breaks quarantine. I would not want to take a chance.

If only the rest of the country was that organized.

They are saying that we won't be able to travel overseas or have overseas travellers till 2022...our vaccines are going out slow...so don't ned people here....but not sure what they will do or how they will police it...I do know that people can apply for an exemption to travel but when they come back they have to stay in a medi hotel till they are cleared...usually 2 weeks at least...and around $3000 even if they live here in this country

That's why they're developing a federated vaccine passport system. I know I mentioned that.

Any sort of vaccine passport doesn't prevent the scenario QMM mentioned - a vaccinated person testing positive on routine required screening. Look at what just happened on one of the cruise lines. A couple of vaccinated passengers tested positive during the cruise. I'm sure they spent thousands of dollars for that trip and ended up confined to their cabin and then being removed from the ship.

I believe post-vaccination positives are far more common than the numbers would suggest because most cases are asymptomatic. Unless everyone is getting routinely tested weekly, they'd have no way of knowing that they're positive. But if you have to get a test when you are in Hawaii or aboard a cruise ship, that's going to catch those cases.

A certain someone is deleting my posts, so I'll re-post.

I think it is hilarious that we are calling the cops on the neighbor that won't quarantine for COVID, but we are perfectly content to let thousands of illegals per day cross into our country.

I am not sure when we arrive at peak stupid, but we've got to be getting close.
