We have a 70lb Labrador retriever that likes to sit on top of our couch and look out the window. In doing this it has ruined the couch. Does anyone have recommendations for the best couch for big dog owners?

Best couch for dog owners

I think my best learned tip is not to have furniture of value. Also I never buy anything with fabric - always some kind of imitation leather. I have a GSD and previously 3 husky mixes so controlling hair has always been the priority. My latest couch and ottoman I picked up was in the bargain center at our local big box furniture store. Paid like $500 or $600 and its held up surprisingly well over the past 2 years but the best part is when something happens to it, I don't have to be upset because it was inexpensive and its replaceable. Life with dogs is worth it

I have a smaller dog and he doesn't really shed, so it's a non-issue for us. We leave a blanket down on one of the cushions and he has claimed that spot as his. Friends with big dogs use slip-covers, or like riverwed mentioned, are of the idea that furniture is a "wear-item", and life with big dogs is what it is.History will judge the complicit.

Looking outside the box... What if instead of sacrificing your couch to damage by your dog, maybe build/buy a sturdy wood table/platform that you can put under the preferred window, then putting a cushion/bed on it & training your dog to lay there instead?
I'll be honest, though... The two (admittedly selfish) primary reasons that I just can't be a pet owner is that I can't stomach the hair/mess/smell of pets, or the damage to my home/belongings that inevitably occurs. I love the friendliness & companionship of dogs & cats... Just not what comes along with them. My wife's significant allergies serve as an easy way to justify my pet-free life. So my opinion/suggestion is definitely colored by that perspective.Last edited by kork13; 01-19-2021, 06:25 AM.
