I'd ague that one's wealth has a lot more to do with "if and how badly" someone is punished, Rather than the color of their skin.....

The racial argument has little room for improvement. I think it's serving as more of a distraction from progress being obtained. There's much more incommon from the poor to poor, than comparing groups of people only to their skin color. Skin color has much more range of outcomes, where poverty doens't fall as far away from the tree as we hoped, in the free world.

The story leaves one to wonder how the two instances are connected (lying about illness to his employer) and a bank/wire fraud charge related to a mortgage application. Sounds like they aren't, except the bank fraud is another example of the man lying where truth is very important.

      History will judge the complicit.

I think thats missing from this discussion is the important of the concept of deterrence. From the standpoint of maintaining social order, its important that punishment be applied swiftly, with a high degree of certainty and be proportionate to the crime. This prevents others from committing the same offense.

From this standpoint, it makes perfect sense to sentence to sentence him to hard jail time for his theft of $100,000.

Wow just wow... amazing how quickly people jump on an opportunity to make easy money. No I definitely think he got what he deserved, he stole money that does not belong to him. Stealing is a crime.
