  • How to carry huge amount of cash?

Let say hypothetically an illegal immigrant was able to save $50,000 in cash. The illegal immigrant has no paper but his son is a legal permanent resident.

The son lives in another state. The parent with the cash decided to move to the son's state.

How to carry or move huge amount of cash? I may be wrong but I believe you cannot carry more than $10,000 of cash in an airplane?

Maybe the son can open a bank account but how can they transfer that cash to the bank account?

This is only hypothetical as me and my friend were talking random stuff and this question randomly came up.

Western union the money. Not sure if they have limits...if so transfer a couple grand at a time.

My grandparents had no issue sending $2,000 via western union to mexico to a scam artist...why cant it work the other way around? I assume foreigners can send money to the states?

If you really want to carry that much cash I believe its possible. YOu just have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and cross your fingers its not confiscated. And its not really the airlines you have to worry about. Some states allow police to steal anything they want when they pull you over. Look it up...people have had $10's of thousands of dollars taken from them for absolutely no reason...and some did have paperwork showing where the money came from.

Rent a car and drive. No security. No prying eyes.
Don't have a license? Hire a friend or family member to drive you for a small fee.

There isn't any limit to the amount of cash you can take on a plane. You have to declare any amount over $10,000, which would probably cause more headaches than it was worth, though. Suddenly transferring $50,000 into a bank account would raise some eyebrows, too.

I believe that $10,000. amount is for international travel and of course any deposit or withdrawal of this amount is reported by the bank.

As for the IRS knowing it, it's only if they have reason to look. It doesn't automatically raise a red flag. $10,000. is pretty common these days.

Western Union is possible but it will be like 25 times of transfer and you will pay the fee of transferring money which is going to be a lot. Also maybe it will raise some eyebrows if you do transfer a lot of times in short amount of time.

This is one option. But what if the question is coast to coast? Like New York to California? Driving will not be an option I guess.

Yeah what if they don't want to declare that on a plane? Maybe depositing less than $10,000 cash in a bank multiple times?

You put it in one of those cool aluminum brief cases, hand cuffed to your wrist.

Driving NY to CA is certainly an option. People do it all the time. It's about 2,800 miles. We drive just over 1,000 miles to Florida every year, sometimes more than once per year. I'd have no problem driving cross country.

Definitely the best option. In a movie I watched last night, they tried to cross the border with suitcases of money on the back of a pick up truck. Didn't turn out so well.

You guys are making this way too complicated..lol

If this is NOT an international flight, no one is giving you a declaration custom boarder form. You can bring however much you want between state lines. If you can't transfer more than 10k at a time between states, then Vegas will be in deep trouble.

be careful if pulled over, a police officer can take the money on suspicion of drug money, laundering or other reasons. you can also run into a dirty officer and he will pocket it, there are lots of story's out there
retired in 2009 at the age of 39 with less than 300K total net worth

And turn you over to immigration since it appears the person travelling with the money is not a legal resident.

Convert that cash to bitcoin and you can move it anywhere, undetected, then access from bitcoin ATM. Not sure how you would convert $ to bitcoin without a bank, but im sure its possible though alternative means, if a little shady.

So when this illegal immigrant goes through security and they find him carrying a duffel bag with 50K in cash, you don't think that's going to cause any issues?

On a separate note, how exactly does an illegal immigrant get on an airplane in the US today? You need government-issued ID.
