Yeah, right, Nutria. I see a big career in motivational speaking ahead of you. You don't know anything about this man beyond what as been said above. You have no idea.

As I understand it, the big impact is the requirement to review and submit the positions that are exempt and non-exempt. There should be a lot less exempt employees below $48,000 salary as a result of this. That will give the employer 2 options: make them non-exempt and pay overtime or raise their pay to $48,000 a year and keep them exempt. In your case, that $5,000 extra pay bought them about 4 hr / week in overtime without pay. So, if you have been working more than 44 hours / week, the company is getting a better deal by raising your pay and making you exempt than paying the overtime.

This "law" hasn't had a significant impact on my company as we are all on time cards due to our defense business. I know other commercial companies that are getting hit hard by this. I think I agree with what is being done, I do not agree with implementing it in less than a year. That can have a major impact on running a business.

      Never a free lunch.

I am blessed. I live in a low cost of living area, and the company is still employee minded. I have an awesome 90/10 BCBS health plan with a 300/600 deductible and 2k/4k out of pocket max for 160/2wk me and spouse. Kids on state. They 100% match on 4% on 401k. Free phone and they pay house internet. I come and go as needed. And they dont like you working over 40. You come in early you go home early. And with this law ordeal they chose the generous route.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.
