keep fingers crossed. We have 5 cases, 3 in ICU, at least on Thursday. No new cases Friday or Saturday.
I wasn't specifically referencing your town but more of a general comment. However, 60% critical case rate is scary.

Again, we just had tests in earnest a week ago, so likely only those who were serious got diagnosed. Statistics are not reliable anywhere at this point. There’s far too many variables and moving parts.

        Good point.

It really isn't that the stats aren't reliable for what they are but they don't give an accurate picture of how many total cases there are. We'll never truly know the answer to that, just as we don't know how many flu cases there are. Even in areas with a lot of cases, like where I am, we are only testing patients who are significantly symptomatic and have clear risk factors. The vast majority of cases will never be captured by the official stats.

We keep referencing China’s “statistics” which is at once laughable. Might as well ignore them. Hard data that they don’t control, such as cell phone subscribers, is more telling. There are 21 million fewer users in China in the last 3 months.

I think we all need good news occasionally, especially when people are fearful and panicked. The story of a Jersey Shore pizzaria, similar to what TH is doing for his employees.

I'm of the opinion that hard times (and very good times) bring out the true character of people. I think as all of this mess will bring out a number of other stories of this sort, to give people some hope for the fundamental humanity of our society.

We've ordered takeout 3 times in the past week and didn't use our coupons for any of them. We paid full price and we gave generous tips on takeout orders. I think that makes us damn humanitarians.

My DH at the end of this might start trusting me to cut his hair.

I've been cutting my own hair for years, probably 10 at this point. It's quick and easy, takes me about 10 minutes tops.

well the day finally arrived. Our mayor shut down the city today. I sent out an email to our wonderful team and told them to relax and enjoy their time off. They will be paid as though they are working.

Gosh I hope we open again soon. It's enough to have my own bills to pay with no income, much less the bills of 35 others!!

Good luck. And kudos to you for continuing to pay your staff. I’m sure they are immensely grateful.

Realistically, how long can you maintain that?

Many businesses still won't survive with the CARES act. And many more will walk away and start fresh. Some may move. I have clients who shut down already and told me they are leaving the area. One ran a karate studio. Another ran a small personal gym. They are leaving the area for somewhere else. I didn't pry too much but both said they plan on moving in with family and seeing what they can salvage.

The CARES funds will help many, but I don't see everything just snapping back. That's where I think we will see real carnage unfortunately. The relief package to small businesses is 10 weeks basically, but I think we could be looking at a soft business climate through the end of the year and beyond. Just trying to be realistic. I would love, however, to see a sharp V-shaped recovery!
