We went to Home Depot this morning for a few items. One item was a new dimmer switch for our sitting room. The dimmer we have in there isn't compatible now that we've changed over to LED bulbs. HD had the dimmer in the color we wanted (ivory) but didn't have the matching switch plate. I went to HD's website where they do have it for $4.03. I checked Amazon and it was $3.99, so essentially the same. BUT HD wanted $5.99 for shipping while Amazon was free shipping. Obviously I got it from Amazon. I just feel a little cheated because when we were in the store I checked Amazon for the switch itself and it was $1 cheaper but I opted to buy it at HD since I was there and had it in my hand. I should have just ordered both items on Amazon.

I was in Park City this week. Found a cool stem book that can physically be turned into a beehive. It was $20 and I decided to get it for DD. Checked amazon out of curiosity and same book was $8. Felt kind of bad for not supporting the local business but I couldn’t unsee the savings and convenience of not having to carry the book around the rest of the day and fit it in my travel bag home.

I have a baby shower the end of this month. Got my invite in December, jumped on Amazon and bought the gift from the baby registry.
Jump to this week. Got another baby shower invite for February. Jumped on Amazon, see that this mom wants the same gift I bought the last mom so I hit order again. The price is now $12 cheaper for the same item. Call 'em up will you give me a price adjustment? No it's over 14 days. Ok well I can return it till March guess I'll return it and buy it again at the cheaper price for my end of January shower too.
Take the package to work and UPS picks it up for me. I am a little salty that I feel they raised prices in December for the Holiday Season though, but other than that love the convenience of Amazon.

Just pulled up all my Amazon orders for 2019 - Spent $101 on 4 orders
Dog gear $41
Book $14
$15 Personal Care Items
$10 Gum
$7 Golf Glove
$8 Cell Phone Case
$6 Cleaning Brushes
I find Amazon to be pretty hit or miss. Sometimes it's price competitive and sometimes it's not. Pet stuff is usually pretty good. Books are almost always price-competitive, but I usually get mine from the library. Some of the things I bought in 2019 I did so because DH received an Amazon gift card for his birthday and the prices were "good enough." I guess I don't buy enough non-consumables for me to be an ideal Amazon customer. Definitely not enough to justify a Prime membership.
Great example of "there's no one size fits all" when it comes to personal finance.

Amazon, even more than most online retailers, frequently adjust their pricing based on what they perceive as market forces. Similar to how airlines do the same thing.

Likely less impulse buying without going into a physical store. And probably saves a little wear and tear on your vehicle too.Steve
