  • Oldest motorized thing in your house

Sometimes stuff lasts a long time, sometimes not so much. Sometimes it lasts longer than I would like it to (want a new one). Here's my old stuff (with some sort of motor in it):

Hand mixer: over over 45 years old
    MGB: 35 years
Chainsaw: 14 years (bought a cheap one and wish it would break so I can get a Stihl)

I have hand tools that are older than I am. Our toaster oven is 20 years old.

What is your long lived stuff?

    Tom

      what does MGB stand for?

we have a milk shake maker from my grandpa's ice cream store. My dad was born in '46 and it was 20 years old by then. It's turquoise and just really cool but it does not work, even though my dad tried. maybe I can find somebody who can and surprise him, that would be awesome

my mom has this very heavy, yet small cassette player that she got I believe, when they were stationed in Germany. So that was the late 60s, it still works, she used to put it by the radio and tape songs when we were little. She played Silly Love Songs so many times a day, it's sweet. But what I don't get is how she got this when she did, I thought cassettes weren't out yet? I was born in '70 and she had it then.

my fav is an nurse's IV calculator, worlds smallest calculator ever. I was given it when I graduated by an elderly friend when her friend, an IV nurse, died. She died at 72 and had never stopped nursing full time. It has never left my purse. The little suede case it's attached to, all the stitching came out. I want to get it fixed. I graduated in 1992 and get this, I used it for 23 yrs of nursing, it is not solar, the battery has not needed to be replaced during those 23 yrs. how can that be?

It has to be our kitchen aide garbage disposal which I believe is original to the house--almost 50 years old.

We also have a hand mixer that won't quit--about 32 years old.

We've been in our house 22 years. I'm trying to think of anything that is still original to that time.

We've replaced the dishwasher, washer, dryer, fridge, freezer, garbage disposal, garage door opener, mixer, blender, microwave, toaster oven, AC, furnace. Several of those items have been replaced twice.

I guess the oldest on that list is the KitchenAid mixer. That's probably around 20 years old.

I have a great blender in avocado green from my great aunt's household. Not entirely sure how old but when was the Avocado Age? I'm sure it was sometime after the Stone Age. 45 years ago?

Not motorized, but like FLA, I have a small appliance from a grandparent's restaurant. It's an electric waffle iron of shiny steel with bakelite handles. Makes huge waffles and has flat inserts to use as a small grill as for sandwiches. Grandma abandoned coastal Florida with the hurricane generated storm in 1919, I think it was. She had the waffle iron until she gave it to me in about 1993. I estimate it is about 95 years old now.

We have an AC that was probably purchased in the ... 80's?

                  Still pumps out cool air.

                    Fun thread.

Our house is only 15 years old so we're not going to break any records here. The dishwasher, range and AC have already been replaced, by us or the previous owners. The originals were all builder-grade.

Our refrigerator, washer and dryer are 11 years old (since we first became homeowners) and still going strong. Fingers crossed they last a long time. I also have an almost 12 year old car, which I love and hope keeps going.

Our blender was a wedding present and is probably the oldest motorized thing we own at 15 years of age. I had to give away our toaster, also 15 years old, when I was diagnosed with celiac, but it's still going strong as well.

Non motorized, we have a 40-year old telescope, a 40 year old Polaroid camera, and 45-50 year old typewriter, that all work. Plus a set of binoculars and camera that have been passed on to us, don't know their age but they are at least 50 years old.

OMG, that thing must make your electric meter spin like a top. If you replace it, you'll probably save enough on your utility bill to pay for the new fridge in two years tops (unless you buy a super fancy fridge).
