  • Honda Accord vs. Toyota Camry

Based on feedback from other thread "Accord vs. Civic" the consensus was get the Honda

    The Accord.

    What about a Toyota Camry?

It's my understanding they are the best selling car in America.

But I also heard Honda Accord received really good reviews in latest Consumer Reports.

So which one do you think is the better buy: Accord or Camry?

I am scheduled to meet with a guy this Saturday about - possibly - buying his Camry.

    Thoughts?

I can't speak about the particular car you are going to see, but I can tell you that our '99 Camry has 165K miles on it and still runs great. Looks its age (at least), but runs great. We've never regretted buying it.

Both are great cars. I have now had a Honda (Acura Integra with a Honda Accord engine) and now have a Toyota Camry.

I like the look of the Honda better but this time around we wanted a hybrid and the Camry was much more available and cheaper. We were told with the Accord we would be put on a waiting list and called when one came in and we couldn't pick the color or the style. If we said no, we went back down to the bottom of the list.

This may not be true anymore. I hope not.

We got a Toyota Camry Hybrid 14.5 model LE. So far we are very happy with it.

PS: We have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia that runs perfectly, so we are def. happy with Toyotas.

They're all good cars, but here's a video that might interest you.

'Consumer Reports' is best for comparing washing machines. Their vehicle reports are mostly propaganda.

Both are fine cars. In my personal assessment, the Accord and Camry are two of the most boring, mediocre vehicles ever built, although they will last like most any other car, as long as you take care of them. But, if you view a car as just another household appliance, I see why they are attractive. Toasters don't need to be exciting, either, as long as they make decent toast.

High resale value on these cars means you're paying a premium to buy someone else's used car, and for what benefit? It's only a benefit if you plan to sell the vehicle well before it reaches the end of its useful life.

Ford, Volkswagen/Audi, Chevrolet, Dodge, Kia, I think all make more compelling vehicles than the Camry, if you're looking for comparison. If time and interest are on your side, check out some of their midsize sedan offerings as well.
          History will judge the complicit.

Okay, here's curve ball. I was trying to talk my wife into a higher end Accord or Civic. She ended up wanting something smaller than an Accord (no more driving kids around) but didn't want a Civic simply because she wanted something a little nicer/high end for once in her life after having soccor mom car's all her life.

Almost by accident I was looking at the Acura site and noticed that the 2016 Acura ILX was in the same price range as a nicely equipped Accord. Although it's certainly a high end cousin to the Civic, she loved it and we ended up buying it. 5 months later and we still love it.

As for your Accord vs Camry question, thats a hard choice! Go by what looks/drives good to you, you can't go wrong with either.

Years down the road you can sell either of those cars overnight on Craigslist. I've never had a used Honda or Toyota that I couldn't sell the first day.

The upcoming 2016 Honda Accord looks really good (exterior). I don't drive either one of them but my advice is go test drive both cars.

I need to point out that with my circumstances I don't want to pay a car note. I agree the 2016 Accords are very nice, but I can't afford to cut a check for a new car right now. Technically, I could but I am also saving up for a 20% down payment on a house. Being on a monthly salary with no other sources of income, it's been a slow climb.

My plan is to keep my 2002 Silverado 4x4 pick up in case I need to use bed, haul something or go off road. It has 220,000 miles on it. Just spent nearly $2,000 to get it repaired and get new brakes on it. The only good thing about that is that I had not spend one dollar for repairs since November 2013. Now it runs as good as it has in long time. I may just end up driving it for another year and keep saving.

I want to get a used, fuel efficient, reliable for the long haul, sedan I can commute in during the week. The only trust I have in that equation is in a Honda or Toyota. Not a Ford, Nissan, Dodge etc.

I am scheduled to see a Civic this afternoon and possibly a Camry (Craigs List).

I am willing to spend in range of $8k to 10k. And drive that car on a 4 year plan continuing to save. And reassess possibilities after 4 years. It's the only way I know how to get ahead on salary. Thoughts or advice?

Have you considered selling the truck and renting one when you need it, instead of trying to maintain two vehicles?

I think asking Accord or Camry is like asking Coke or Pepsi. It really comes down to personal preference. They are both excellent cars. They will both give you many years of driving pleasure. You just need to give them both a good look, see how they feel to you, compare how the instrument panels are laid out, compare the various bells and whistles that each one has.

Personally, I'm on my 3rd Camry. I had a 1991 that I drove for about 125,000 miles. I had a 1998 that I kept for 14 years and well over 150,000 (I forget exactly). And now I've got a 2006 that has 62,000. Camrys are great cars. They look good. They drive well. And they hold up well. But the exact same can be said for Accords.

Pick the one that you like better.

Both are good quality cars with comparable features and prices. Pick the one that you like better. There really is no distinct advantage to one over the other.

Agreed. Both have very good engines. IMHO, the Camry is a little less plush and feels more utilitarian when it drives.

We've had experience with both. They are both good cars; it's great that there's a choice for cheap, frugal cars because when we need one, we can just buy which ever is cheaper.

We drove our accord from 95 until 2000 when my wife gave it to her sister. Absolutely no problems. Our camry from 05 to present, still works perfectly.

My parents had an 86 camry and drove it just fine until 2011 -- that's 25 years!! when it failed smog and they sold it to the smog shop owner. They've been wanting that car to die for some time... but it just keep going and going...
