  • Looking for an Savings App

Has anyone found a free or lower cost iPhone app that keeps track of your various investments and savings? You would think there would be a ton of them but I can't find any that fit my need. I thought about the Mint.com app but don't like the idea of having to give them my various bank/investment passwords.

You can enter the accounts manually in Mint and update them manually, if you don't want to give out passwords. That said, anything that will automatically track your financials is going to need to access your accounts.

Mint is an Intuit product, the people that do Quicken, TurboTax, and various professional tax preparation programs, so their security is high-quality.

I'm confused about how you think the app would track your data if you didn't provide passwords?

Love mint. I'd highly recommend it

Thanks, I didn't now you could do it manually on Mint.com. When I downloaded the app it gave me the impression that you had to give your account numbers and passwords.

And yes, I'm a little hesitant in giving out passwords to all my various banks and investment accounts. I have no trouble in doing online banking and other financial related transactions but to give out all my various passwords makes me a little nervous, even with a company like Intuit.

I'm not sure offhand how to do it in the app, but in the online version when you edit your accounts there's an "Other" category where you enter things manually.

Again, though, anything that will track your investments for you is going to require passwords. Mint's security level is equal to that of banks, credit cards, etc. The comfort level, of course, is something you'll need to decide for yourself, but the risk of someone hacking into Mint.com and decrypting your login information is the same as the risk of someone hacking into Chase.com (or whatever bank) and doing the same thing. (The difference, of course, is that you have more passwords stored in Mint. You cannot initiate transactions from Mint, though (you can from Mint Bills) so they'd still need to go to each account website individually to take any of your money. Of course, with Mint monitoring your accounts you'd be notified of any major changes. )

I think, Mint is good app and it has good security so you don't need to feel insecure.

+1 on Mint, it's much more intuitive than the older software I was using on my PC (Microsoft Money).

Similar to Mint App, Pageonce Money & Bills is also a good app that compiles all of your financial information into single dashboard. You can also use this app to pay your view and bills directly from your phone with the notification for each bill which is due.
