  • Ever get a credit card to use for one specific merchant?

I just discovered that my daughter's day care takes credit cards online without charging a fee. But, they only take Discover. I have Visa and Amex, but no Discover. We'll be spending enough on day care that I'd really like some cash back. So, I signed up for a Discover It card. Since the bonus categories seem the same as the Chase Freedom card, I don't we'll do anything else with the card.

I feel a bit silly complicating my life with another credit card for a bit more than $10/month. But, I figure that if I automate paying the card right after the card pays day care, it's almost free money.

I don't see an issue with it.

I'm kicking around the idea of opening up a card with a $1000 limit to use exclusively for online shopping.

I would do that for sure.

Once you have the Discover card, you may also want to take advantage of the quarterly 5% cash back bonuses. Also, they periodically may send you offers for even higher cashback depending on your spending patterns. My wife had an offer 1/1-3/31 to get back $100 if she charged $1,000. And that was on top of her regular cashback or 5% deals. So she was getting 15% cashback during that period on the 5% categories.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I'm one that charges EVERYTHING just for the cash rewards so I totally understand. If you play the game right you can easily get $1,000 cash back each year by charging, you just need to pay it off in full every month.

I'm hoping to get some offers like that. I did some searching for sign up bonuses before applying, and while I couldn't find any, I did see mention of spending incentives for existing customers. It's nice to hear about loyalty bonuses rather than churning incentives.

I do this a lot. Just opened a Home Depot credit card to get 10% off. Have many cards just sitting in the safe that were used once and done. I monitor all of them online just to make sure no one tries to use them.
