  • Retirement Nest Egg?

How much did you retire with for your nest egg? Did you have a pension when you retired? What age did you retire?

For those closing in on retiring how much is your nest egg number?

Planning on retiring in 17 months; nest egg will be between 35 and 40 times annual expenses, for a 40 year retirement.

i retired 5 years ago with less than 300K as shown in my sig. dont have a pension, no 401K, no retirement fund, had all my savings in CD's drawing close to 5% in 2009 but steadily dropping, threw my full savings into RE at the bottom and have been riding the wave since
retired in 2009 at the age of 39 with less than 300K total net worth

I'm retiring from state gov't in slightly less than 4 yrs. at age 53. I should have a 62% pension and enough in retirement plans to exceed what I live on now by quite a bit. I shouldn't be nervous about it but it feels like the first time on a small airplane when the landing strip comes into view.

I'm closing in without about 15 years to go and my target number is somewhere between 2MM & 6MM.

I'm almost embarrassed to say because of feeling a little guilty. Recently retired at 55 with a 100% pension from a California Public Retirement system along with full medical for life. Savings, stock and Deferred Compensation plan (457) worth of $750,000.

That's a pretty big swing. Have you tried to narrow down the range at all?

We are maybe 8 to 9 years away from retirement. My husband will likely have the option of retiring and then doing some Consulting work part-time. I don't know if he'll want to do that or not.

Pensions will replace around 45% of our current income. Our pensions were frozen years ago at a set benefit amount when the company switched over to a profit sharing/deferred compensation plan. Once our mortgage is paid off, that should be enough to pay our real estate taxes and a basic living - with healthcare being a huge wildcard.

Social Security will be - hopefully at least something. Like everybody else, I hope to at least get some of what we've paid in back.

Investments - that will be IRAs, 401K, Roths, Def. Comp and then a Taxable Account. We've collected a bunch of them over the years. I have a goal sheet that I did years ago that I listed every year and then our savings balance goal for the end of that year. Right now, we are almost at the 12/31/2015 goal amount so we're on track. The goals end at around $2.6million.

It's more of a projection of where I could end up, not what I might need. I could certainly get by on less, but I'm going to aim high.
