  • Received Tax Refund!

Filed on Jan 31 and our refund was deposited today - yay!

I'm not usually that fast, but I did a quick check on Jan 31 and when I saw how big our refund was going to be (oops - wasn't aiming for that) I filed immediately.

We have to pay a small amount to the state, so we'll wait until April to do that.

We've had some significant changes in our finances that I didn't properly account for. Now I'm off to modify our withholding so we don't get such a big refund next year.

How exciting! I always file in Jan just to get it out of the way, so I got mine on Monday. Of course, it immediately went out to the door to pay off student loans, but such is life!

Got mine this morning too! Well, federal anyway. State should be deposited next week. I had the spending of it all planned out, so I'm methodically plowing through it (oh, the hardship...to have to shop! )

Did you stop to think about saving this money you worked so hard for? Spending a tax refund is always the last thing I even consider doing with any refunds we ever received. I started our Roth IRA accounts one year, another year I opened college funds and yes there were years where we paid off debt.

I just filed mine the other day, I'm going to end up with a WAY larger refund than I normally aim for ($1850 this year vs. <$300 refund) ... but I was deployed for 6 months, so I got a lot of my 2013 income qualified as tax-free, which kept me well inside the 15% bracket vs. the 25% bracket. So whatever... $1k is going to pay down my car loan (between my tax refund & a $1200 escrow refund, this should be finished within 2-3 months! woohoo!), and $800 will go toward finishing off my wedding fund for later this Spring. Considering I'm just throwing it all straight into savings, I'm not too concerned with getting it immediately...so when it shows up in a couple weeks, it'll be no big deal for me, just make the transfers & be done with it.

Part of it IS going into savings (about half of it). Some is going towards debt. The rest is going towards things that I have needed for a while, and have always planned on purchasing with the refund. None of the shopping is rash...doesn't mean I can't enjoy it anyway.

I filed on February 3 and got my refund on the 11th.
I have a substantial emergency fund and no debts other than my mortgage.

I'm spending my refund on a vacation trip!

We haven't file but I'm in no rush we owe so it will go toward the balance.

I should be getting mine soon (just over 1500). Not gonna lie, I'm splurging on a new snowboard/bindings/mittens (6-700 max). The rest will go to house fund for future projects.
