One of the best ways to save money is to buy things used instead of new, and this is a great recommendation is most cases. But as we all know, there are always exceptions to the rule. I'm just curious about the things that you feel should always be purchased new.

baby car seats
personal care items - I know a lot of people sell open bottles of cosmetics and hair care products online but I don't think it is worth the risk that they have been tampered with.Steve

My personal list of "to always buy new" is not very long. Only stuff like "underwear" came to mind.
People sell open beauty products? Ugh! I'll add that to my list; didn't know there was a market for that.
I also think that *never* is a strong word. There are many things (like infant carseats) that I'd probably not buy used, myself, but in a pinch I absolutley would. For me they would be in the "to buy cautiously when used" column.Last edited by MonkeyMama; 07-26-2013, 07:52 AM.

I think it also depends where you are making the purchase. If you are buying from a friend or relative who you know and trust and you are certain the carseat has never been involved in an accident, that's different than buying one at your local Goodwill store.
Another thing that I always buy new is computers. They have a short enough lifespan as is. I don't see the point in buying one that's already a couple of years old. I'd rather just buy a cheaper brand new one if money was tight. You can get a pretty decent laptop for about $300. How much more can you really save buying used?Steve
