  • Declutter Thread?

Has our declutter thread gone stale? If so, I need to start another to keep myself accountable.
Tonight's decluttering included six books (no retail value), silk poinsettias, various Christmas decorations, a pill box, math flash cards, half a dozen magazines with the promise of so much more to come.

Gave a stack of magazines I'll never read to a friend who'll take them to a nursing home for the residents.

Gave away a stack of old classical CDs.

Gave away a filing cabinet I had no use for.

Will sell a handful of designer silk scarves and some jewelry. Hoping the consignor will get $10k in all, but it will take some time for the jewelry to sell.

Cleaned out my refrigerator over the weekend. Had to throw out quite a lot of expired (nasty) food. Feel guilty for being so wasteful. This weekend re-organize my shelves in garage and move up my miter saw onto one of them to clear space on workbench. Eventually clean out office and recycle old electronics/batteries.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

          Have we got two?

I think we have two declutter threads going--cluttering up the boards?
I recycled more and more paper today, including all the contents of three months of university mail.

I looked in the Frugal section but didn't see another thread.

              So Many Things!

I went downstairs this morning to find summer clothes and came up with a pile of outgrown ones plus a game that I sent with DH for a co-worker's kids. All of that can leave my house!

Long weekend imminent: time to quickly review medicine cabinet or box you keep your medical supplies. Remove prescription drugs that have expired. They are safely disposed of by the pharmacist. What do you need for summer? Band-aids and antibiotic cream, tweezers, lip balm, 30 spf sunscreen, germicidal wipes, waterless hand cleaner, insect repellant , Calamine lotion etc. It's a good idea to make up a small kit for the car, headache tablets, band-aids, anti biotic cream and wipes, sun screen, lip balm etc.

Review make-up: Pitch eye make-up and mascara over 6 months old, lipstick that smells or tastes odd, nail polish that's thickened and unusable. Wash brushes, replace sponge applicators. 12 months is shelf life of concealer and foundation.

                  I've been away too long.

I spent a couple of hours in the garage this morning. Got some stuff in the trash, some in the recycling bin, and 3 boxes packed for Goodwill. I'll take them over on Thursday when I go to the dentist (they're in the same strip center). Lots more to be done but at least I feel like I made some progress.

We Keep Filling Up the Bags

Our Goodwill bag is getting very full again--and my book and software sales have made a nice dent in the available space in my office.

Sometimes motivation comes from unexpected places.

My son wants to start weight lifting, but we do not have any space in the basement. I told him that we'd have to get rid of a bunch of stuff in order to have enough space to lift, and he said OK.

So this might be the catalyst to de-clutter, increase available space, and get some exercise!

We just recently moved, so it was a good opportunity to look at all of our stuff and see if it passed the question of "do we really need this?" There were many things I couldn't even remember we had, so why bother keeping it and moving it to the new location? We gave a lot of stuff to family, friends, and Goodwill.

I worked in the garage today. Three more cartons for Goodwill, more trash, more recycling. There's actually starting to be some floor space in there.

I have a pile of stuff to put on an auction site. Probably 12 items. Will have to make time this weekend to do it. I get very un-motivated about listing things for sale; I'd rather just get them out of the house.

Worked in the garage again this morning. Packed up a couple more boxes for Goodwill. Got some stuff in the trash and some in recycling. Best of all, I found our bowling balls which have been mia for a few years. Not that we go bowling more than maybe once a year but it will be nice to do so with our own balls next time.

I came across a few items that I thought about putting on ebay. Thanks to the iPhone app, I could look them up while I was standing there and discovered that none are worth anything. Remember to always check completed auctions not just active auctions. It's nice to see that there are 20 similar items for sale but with the completed auctions you see if any have actually sold recently. In the case of the few items I looked up, not a single one had been successful so I won't waste my time. Off to Goodwill instead.
