OK seriously. Latest date was March 13. Saw today it still wasn't deposited so I checked the refund site again and now it says March 20... Would it be a waste of time to call? This is getting ridiculous.

Considering you efiled over a month ago, I can't see where calling would hurt. It may turn out to be a waste of time, but it might make you feel better.

Did you file anything special in that return, like an Injured Spouse form?

Nope. Was pretty much the same as our return last year. The only thing we have that isn't really standard is a seller-financed mortgage but that's never struck any flags before.

Mine is scheduled to be direct deposite in 30 mins, according to IRS's "Where's my Refund" site. That is less than 7 days from when I filed and they accepted the return in less than 2 hours. But I have a very standard return and they owe me a lot of money and I don't get fancy with deduction. I am sure I give Uncle Sam at least 1k dollars extra in income tax each year because I don't have fancy deduction. I am not as upset about that as I am about SS and MC taxes that I know I may not see or be able to take advantage of because the government will use that money for pay the poor for votes.

I got a note that it was accepted when I filed toward the end of Feb. Just yesterday I got a letter in the mail from the IRS needing some additional info from me. Took them long enough to reply to me, but hopefully I'm in the clear. What does Where's My Refund say for you? Processing or payment sent?

Yes, I have several friends who went through that. Also I heard on the news a few weeks ago that the return times would be slower this year. They must be making a list and checking it twice?

                  SMH... the IRS.

It says "Accept" and estimate Direct Deposit date is XX/XX/XXXX. It was deposited 1 minute past midnight and, while the transaction is not yet visible with my bank's online access, the fund is available to pay bills with. I surely will put it to good use, paying off part of my wife's vacation cost.

Mystery solved. I checked the refund site again today. It says "We made changes to your tax return that changed the amount of your refund.

The balance of your refund, $XXXX, will be direct deposited on March 22, 2012. You will receive a notice dated April 9, 2012 that explains in more detail the changes made to your tax return."

The new amount is exactly $500 less than I thought we were getting, so IDK if I took a credit I wasn't eligible for or what but at least I have an answer and the remainder is finally headed my way. I am curious to know what happened though.

Interesting, I didn't know they would actually correct a return for you... I thought they'd just say "THIS IS WRONG!!" and send it back with instructions on what to fix. How will you actually find out what they corrected, though? At least normally, they don't send back a copy of your return, just the check (or direct deposit). I suppose a call to the friendly fellows at the IRS is in order?

They do send a letter (eventually) when they make a correction saying what it is they changed and why. At least they did a few years ago when we forgot to claim something (some new tax thing they did at the time) that a lot of people were forgetting to claim that year. But it was a few weeks after they had deposited the higher amount in our account than we'd been expecting.

LOL- I've seen a letter from the IRS where someone was receiving $1 more than they figured on their tax return due to a rounding error. Seriously?
