  • Federal return keeps getting delayed...Anyone else?

Was first scheduled to get it by Feb. 16. Then they delayed and said March 3. I just checked again and now its saying March 13!

Against my better judgement I got a little excited about paying off DHs car (yay for no more consumer debt!) and made the payment last month in anticipation of the refund coming. Now we've been pinched and had to borrow from savings to keep from overdrafting our checking lol. I guess I know the refund is coming and its not as if we don't have the money to cover, I just wish they'd hurry up and deposit it already!

Funny how one can be exicted to hurry up and save their money lol.

My state return came right away. Was just curious if others were experiencing delays with their federal.

No help from me. I owe a big pile of money, so I'm delaying my payment as long as possible.

I got my Federal refund 5 business days after it was accepted on Feb 16.

However, NYS is taking their sweet time, at 12 business days already.

State came for me about 4 days DD after filing with Turbotax. Fed took about 3 weeks and I filed about Feb 3

I haven't filed, yet, so I guess it would premature for me to be looking for a refund.

That is strange that you have filed and your payment date keeps getting pushed back.

            I haven't filed either so I can't comment.

See now I'm worried. I just double checked and I filed Feb. 13. I got a note that it was accepted. Could the delay potentially be because something is wrong with it??

I received my federal about 10 days after filing. I wouldn't get too nervous about it.

I just checked on my son's return. It was efiled on the 28 Feb and expected refund date is 20 Mar.
That is longer than I would think it would take for an efile...

I got my Federal return about 7 business days later, but am still waiting for my state refund (NM).

Riverwed, I just saw this article and remembered your thread here... I don't mean to startle you, but your return may have somehow tripped some of the IRS' fraud safeguards. The worst possibility is that someone tried to file a return in your name... but I expect that's a very, very slight possibility.

I'd say most likely, your return probably triggered some sort of filter in the automatic processing system, and now an investigator has to look over it, which is causing the delay. Everything may be 100% correct and legitimate, but even if the computer makes an error, it needs to be checked anyway. If you're really concerned, you can always call the IRS to inquire.

I filed my own return on 3 March, and right now the IRS website says I'll get my refund on 20 March, right inside the estimated 10-21 day processing window... So we'll see when it actually gets processed.

I got my Federal back in about 10 days, filed electronically though TurboTax. However, one of my friends took almost a month, sounds like he had the same situation as you, but he did eventually get his money.

                        Good Luck.

Got my state within 3 days of efile, and then Fed 3 days after that. I efiled with Taxact on Feb 1, so I'm assuming it was just good early timing on my end. Otherwise it's the first time I've ever gotten both refunds within 7 days.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

                            Probably one of two scenarios.

Currently, the IRS has 2 systems on which they accept efiled returns, as they are trying to do away with the older and switch entirely to the newer. At the time you filed, the newer system had just crashed, putting everyone that filed during that time frame on a serious delay in receiving their refund.

Otherwise, if you (or your spouse, if MFJ) owe the gov't any sort of money (back child support, back taxes, student loans), the Financial Management Systems (FMS, treasury) will take your return to pay that off. You can look yourself up on irs.gov under where's my refund. If you get a message to call the IRS, and there is a code listed, this is likely what has happened. You can call, anyway, and speak with a rep. 1-800-829-1040 - don't push a button for any prompt, then the recording will repeat itself and don't push anything again. It will go to a rep.

If someone had tried to file with your SSN, you would have been rejected immediately by the host. Don't worry about that one.

My return was accepted right away, like the next day. It took about 12 working days before I got the refund. The dates were moved twice during that wait.
I wouldn't worry too much. The government is slow in just about everything they do.
