All depends on the individual. I enjoy the experience. Heck, I enjoy playing for play money on internet sites. My wife is very satisfied to play penny slots for $0.30/spin for an hour or two, never risking more than about $50 and almost always less than that.

my stock market success (up to now) has taken away casino visits as a source of entertainment for me
Understood. Not everyone enjoys gambling, just as not everyone enjoys football, reality shows, fishing or gardening. We're all different. Keeps life interesting. My SIL and BIL used to have a boat. Almost every weekend, they took the boat out and spent the day on the water. We went with them one time. I was bored out of my mind. We never went out with them again. They love it. Me, couldn't stand it.

I like to travel, buy clothes (sometimes) and get my hair done. Those would be my extravagences. Gambling holds no appeal to me (casinos bore and depress me). My mom on the other hand loves to go down to Laughlin for a week and play the slots. I'd be bored (and angry about losing money) within 1/2 an hour.

I blow money on keeping myself happy. It only costs 200 dollars a month that I stash away and spend it when I am on travel. The real blow-out is the money I pay myself each paycheck. I pay myself almost 1000 dollars each paycheck by not feeling the needs to have nice cars, fancy vacations, or wasteful things.

Lately it's been furnitures/interior decorating. I brought my first condo and even though it's bigger than my rental, the floorplan is different and as a result some of my furnitures look awkward due to unproportioned scale. There's nothing wrong with my furnitures, they're solid and well made but lately I just don't like how they look in my new home. Oh man I'm turning into one of those people who wigs out because things don't match or coordinate.

I can speak for my dear husband; it is cars!! We have 5. One is his work van, which is needed. (He is a licensed builder) But the other four are 3 corvettes and a 1933 ford victoria hot rod.

Travel - def. travel. We take at least 2 transatlantic trips per year to see family. Then we like to take a few road or train trips through Europe, or overnights in different cities.

We also spend a bit on quality food (organic, locally produced)- rather than cheap food - but I see that as an investment in my health.

But we are in the black, have a large EF, save a sig. amount every month, and have a pretty good basic safety net around us - so I think it is also important to enjoy life and see the world!

Travel for DH and I. We use nearly every last cent that is left over after savings and bills to pay for our travel habit.

Travel is definitely on our list, too, though I don't consider that blowing money of course.

We do at least one week in Disney World each year. The past two years we've done two weeks. Recent years have included a cruise to Bermuda, two weeks in California and Vegas, two weeks in New Hampshire, a week in Stowe, VT, trips to Boston, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., and various other places.

Before I bought a house I'd say gambling-casino/sports betting. But as others said, too depressing, and stressful during FB season
Buying cars would be top of list, including road trips for them. Also adds up due to tool collection over time. Cheaper local stuff is movies for entertainment. And my home theater/pcs for hobby. I have friends have put 30k+ in home theater equipment instead of traveling, but I don't judge since that's their passion. Others ask why go to a theater in the first place, but for me it's a social thing with friends to discuss afterwards.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I love to travel, but I agree with disneysteve in that I don't consider it blowing money. I love to blow some money gambling, but I don't have the discipline I used to. I like to blow money on an extravagant dinner and wine.

I spend a lot of money on Lakers tickets, around $10K a year. Also around $10K a year on travel.

Yeah Laker tickets are crazy expensive.

I've been to one game. About 8 years ago. It was MJs last game against the Lakers when he was with the Wizards. Two tickets in the nose bleed section for about $150 a piece. Kobe scored 41 points in the first half of that game on his way to 50 something for the game.

Lately, I've been sucked into buying clothes from Bonobos and Betabrand. For some reason, I can't resist their marketing. And they send me emails at least twice a week. I'd unsubscribe, but I can't bring myself to .

Oh, and I'm a Mavs fan, and no, I don't think they can beat the Lakers. You have to be a pessimist when rooting for a habitual losing team.

I know your pain being a die hard Bills fan. I was so upset with the Mavs when they failed to close out the Heat in the '06 Finals.
