What do you blow your money on?

Husband loves to golf.
I love to travel.

We try to find ways to do both either free or cheap. DH often finds ways to play for free or close to free by getting in on work tournaments where work pays, etc....

I try to tag along with DH for work travel so we can get a semi-inexpensive vacation. I would love to do international travel every year with the kids, but we don't have the resources to do that.

When I used to work in the restaurant industry I would blow my money on drinks after work. Now that I have a 8-5 job I don't go out for drinks as often. I am eating out more, but those expenses are smaller than the bar expenses with a wad of cash in your pocket so I am saving money.

This is why I don't tip that much at bars because I know they don't appreciate it anyway. I learned this in college from all of the liberal art major folks who were always broke on Monday but bragged about how much they would be making in tips on Thursday. On the other hand, I tip well at hotel because I know those folks work hard and barely make anything, especially when people generally don't tip cleaning staffs.

It is all the things relating to my bicycle. The clothes, equipment, and maintenance. The total is not that much, but it is my only hobby.

I also occasionally splurge on eating out. That is the one habit that I cannot seem to kick!

Restaurants -- which is in some ways ironic, because both my wife and I love to cook and are rather good at it. But we do like a good restaurant meal, and where we live (DC) that can cost a pretty penny.

I love shopping and fooding, so after budgeting for month whatever extra money is left I spend it either on food and shopping.

I moved from the DC area and that's one of the things I miss most. Not just the high end restaurants which we rarely went to anyway, but the inexpensive, but authentic ethnic cuisine to mid-range places. Miss it a lot.

Travel is our main over-spend. While I work hard to budget we just loving traveling too darn much! We tend to go out of town every other weekend and either stay at a bed-and-breakfast or rent a condo.

We also do 1-2 international trips/year. At the end of the day I feel like life is short so if I'm going to blow some money, why not spend it on great experiences!

I love to travel and go on a major trip (overseas) every other year. I use miles to go first or business class and get the best deal I can on the rest.

I blow my money on gas whenever I drive my 4x4, which is more of a toy than a mode of transportation. I get 10-15 mpg on that while my Corolla easily get 30-35 mpg. Normally I like to take the back road and do 45 mph to enjoy the scenery while going to work and coming home. It is the one luxury that cost me that most individually. It cost me about 30 dollars each time I drive it to work and that's more than a bar visit or even dinner for the whole family. That's why I only do that once, no more than twice a month, just to get the condensation out of the oil and fuel system. 351M Windsor enjoyment doesn't come cheap. I just drove it yesterday and had to fill up. It cost a little over $100 and that wasn't cool at all.

My other 4x4 has a big block 460 and I don't even run it more than 5 minutes a week just to keep things lubricated properly. I keep that one in the garage and use it more as a man-audio than an actual vehicle. Back when gas was $1.5 in 2008, I drive it on weekend. The last time I had to fill up, it cost me almost $200 to fill 46 gallons; total capacity is 50 gallons.

Both vehicles are meant more for family vacations, which we haven't taken in years due to work and school. Fortunately, our vacation are mostly paid for in term of gas and hotel as well as food.

I blow way too much money on books. I constantly need something to read. Now I’ve started frequenting second-hand bookstores and thrift stores; less option than Barnes and Nobles, but a fraction of the price.

Oh, plants! Definitely plants. It is a special kind of greed, this desire for so many kinds of plants. But plants also seem thrifty, as one plant can be propagated into many more plants. If I were to buy golf clubs, furniture, clothes, jewelry, car accessories, camping gear, etc, none of those would propagate themselves. Money doesn't grow on trees, but trees do grow on trees!

I'm yet another person who tends to blow money on take-out... but I also find myself blowing larger amounts of money on bicycle parts. Sometimes it seems like you've just gotten one problem sorted out and something else goes wrong ("what's that noise now?")

My first kid is coming very shortly though, so I expect I'll have something new to blow money on.
