This may sound like an ad, but's it's not. Got no interest/benefit in this, but...

I've been diggin' on Pandora this week. This is what they refer to as internet radio.

Essentially you register at their site and then set up a few personalized "stations". You pick an artist or song title or genre, and they construct a radio station that matches that selection.

For example, I picked Glee Cast (hey, I like Glee, so STFU!) and it construction a "Glee" station that includes alot of songs from Glee, and then mixed in some of the original songs that Glee covers, and then some other songs from musicals, and a few songs that have a similar sound. It's pretty cool - don't know how how deep this song list is, but it's played for hours with no repeats. You can make any number of different stations, or pick from some canned ones they have.

Here's the cool part - I can play this on my iPhone. So I walked out of the house (on Wifi), then into the car (on 3G), drove to work listening without any skips, then into the office (on Wifi) and it keeps playing. Sounded great in the car - better than satellite radio. I'm going to use this on my 8 hour trip tonite to SC and see how it goes.

There are some caveats if you want to check it out. If you have a limited plan on your phone, you are eating bandwidth, so you'll need to keep an eye on it. I have unlimited. Also, the free service has a few ads here and there and has limited skips and think has a 5 hour cap before you must restart. The premium plan is $36 a year, and you get higher quality - 192kbps, no caps, or limits and no ads.

So all you tightwad computer and phone geeks who like music might want to check it out.

Pandora has been around for while! I've been listening to it for the past few years!! Did you just now discover it!?!? It's been on iPhones for a while too... my mom even usues it! I'm listening to it now at work - I listen to Pandora everyday. Are you sure this isn't an ad or are you just behind on Pandora craze!?!?

I've seen it there, but thought for a long time it was complicated to set up. I also thought it was like other internet radio stations I'd listened to which were pretty crappy and stuffed with ads, just like terrestrial radio.

It came as a free app on my Boxee Box, so and I was wanting to play music thru my home theatre setup, so I checked it out.

I like this alot better than XM, especially at this price.

I like Pandora too. It's a great way to get introduced to new music that I probably wouldn't come across on my own. Although a draw back, from a music perspective, is that it just plays similar sounding songs that are in your "station."

Update - on my trip, it worked the whole way - 8 hours, except for a 10 mile stretch just north of Durham. I had no phone service on that section either - thanks AT&T!

So using Pandora on the cell phone is a big win - better and cheaper than using XM.

All I got out of that is you like Glee.

Pandora is pretty awesome though. I believe its 40 hrs free each month, but unlimited is that price you listed. At least last time I checked on my Android.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Pandora is also a good one for me. But I don't like some of its limitations. However, since there is really no good alternative for it yet, I would definitely stick to this one for long.
