This may sound like an ad, but's it's not. Got no interest/benefit in this, but...
I've been diggin' on Pandora this week. This is what they refer to as internet radio.
Essentially you register at their site and then set up a few personalized "stations". You pick an artist or song title or genre, and they construct a radio station that matches that selection.
For example, I picked Glee Cast (hey, I like Glee, so STFU!) and it construction a "Glee" station that includes alot of songs from Glee, and then mixed in some of the original songs that Glee covers, and then some other songs from musicals, and a few songs that have a similar sound. It's pretty cool - don't know how how deep this song list is, but it's played for hours with no repeats. You can make any number of different stations, or pick from some canned ones they have.
Here's the cool part - I can play this on my iPhone. So I walked out of the house (on Wifi), then into the car (on 3G), drove to work listening without any skips, then into the office (on Wifi) and it keeps playing. Sounded great in the car - better than satellite radio. I'm going to use this on my 8 hour trip tonite to SC and see how it goes.
There are some caveats if you want to check it out. If you have a limited plan on your phone, you are eating bandwidth, so you'll need to keep an eye on it. I have unlimited. Also, the free service has a few ads here and there and has limited skips and think has a 5 hour cap before you must restart. The premium plan is $36 a year, and you get higher quality - 192kbps, no caps, or limits and no ads.
So all you tightwad computer and phone geeks who like music might want to check it out.
