Same here. Actually, we do eat out often enough but not at the places that I would necessarily prefer to be frequenting. We're getting to that stage of parenthood, though, when our daughter is being out more and more so my wife and I are starting to get little tastes of empty nesthood when we are able to go out to dinner at a place of our choosing.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Holiday's mostly. I don't seem to spend a lot (apart from the obvious: food, rent etc) which means I can save and go on more holidays. I often get people asking how I can afford to go on two or three holidays a year when I earn the same as them. It's simple - savings instead of wasting.

In order of biggest $ amounts to lowest:

          1. Retirement savings (about 70% of my after tax income).
          2. Little travel trips on nearly every weekend, and long distance 2+ week trips at least once a year.
          3. Rent for a room in the city I presently consult (IT work) (my home is rented out to a nice family)
          4. Food, utilities...
          5. Movies, books, music
          6. Film, development costs, printing. I love photography.

I save most of my $$ because I am VERY pessimistic about the country, the economy, and the future of this country. This, even as I make well into the six figures, and am at the top of my career industry.

I HATE buying things I cannot justify, or that don't bring me a hell of a lot of value, or that decrease in value. I dislike people that are middle class but have high class spending habits; they do it for how they're perceived by others...this type are the most shallow of them all.

Having kids. They are expensive and all the savings and frugality we practiced before has allowed us the luxury of me staying at home with our new baby and having more kids.

I am addicted to electronics. TVs, cameras, computers, and pretty much anything else that is new and cool in the gadget world. Problem is now I have a little one on the way and I'm sure I will not be buying that 1080p projector I wanted. Oh well, could be a good excuse to get a new camera

I'm doing my best to save to buy a hobby farm. I grew up on a hundred acres with a couple of cows, some pigs, etc. I would love to have something like that just to play around with, hunt on, and to build a stocked pond to fish out of. Land is $3K an acre around here, so I will most likely relocate.

I also love playing poker and hunting. I limit myself to $100 a month between the two.

traveling; i would like to travel all over the world. The way the economy is means that i have to forgo some things so that i can do this. Things that have to go is fancy gadgets and probably a car. I hope my fortunes turn around so that i can travel more and further in future.
