  • What do you buy at Amazon?

For those who shop at Amazon.com, what types of things do you buy from them (other than books, music and videos)? I do a number of surveys that pay me in Amazon gift cards and honestly, I get the credits faster than I can spend them (yes, I'm odd that way). We don't buy many books, almost never buy a CD and only get a couple of DVDs each year. Since getting our Keurig coffeemaker (which we got on Amazon) we've been ordering our coffee from them, too. Most of DD's Chanukah presents will come from Amazon. We got DD's new calculator there. But sometimes a couple of months goes by without us ordering anything (but the credits keep accumulating). Even though we've ordered a number of things and gifts there in the past couple of weeks, as of right now, I've still got $800 in credit in my account.

I've looked at groceries besides the coffee but the prices aren't good. I don't want to use the credit just because I have it if it means paying a lot more for something than I would at my local supermarket.

Any suggestions? Anything you routinely order from Amazon because their price is very competitive?

i ordered a video game recently, down comforter, senseo coffee pods, yoga ball, belly butter, kitchen gadgets. Cheaper than target or walmart and no tax, free shipping.

I also ordered belly bands, used books, etc. All kinds of stuff, I price shop. My neighbors only order from there.

Their pack and play, stroller, car seat, etc. All savings on shipping and taxes and cheaper than buying at a real store.

Besides books and the occasional DVD, I've bought several electronic things from Amazon. They had a great price on the digital camera I bought this year as well as several accessories for DBF's old digital camera over the years. A few years ago I bought a good quality pair of binoculars from them. Last year I bought myself a new Seiko watch after I lost my old watch. All these are only one time purchase things, but they were all several $100 apiece. I also tend to do a lot of my Christmas shopping on Amazon.

Electronics. I normally go there first for just about anything over ~$20 to compare prices before going out shopping for something, and especially for electronics, they've generally got the best prices. From Amazon, I've bought my DSLR camera and lenses, netbook, my wristwatch, running shoes, and a host of books, music, and other random items.

            Only Books.

I can get better deals for other things in more specialized websites.

I never thought of that. There is only one person, our niece, who we would give an Amazon gift card to, but I think I will do that with the next code I get. Thanks for the idea. I don't actually get gift cards. They just e-mail me the codes, but I can copy a code and give it to her.

This is always my challenge. Do I pay a little more at Amazon to use my credits or do I pay out of pocket elsewhere but get a better deal? I want to use my credits but I also want to get good value for them.

Depends, I get deals on my sneakers from amazon. I usually don't buy clothes though.

I also get Amazon gift card codes for completing health care surveys quite frequently. I generally order tea bags from Amazon. Sometimes I get toiletries there too. I've ordered toys also. In each case, Amazon was less expensive for these items as I've compared the prices to Walmart and other stores.

                      In recent years, we've bought:

                      - Levi's. Surprisingly competitive.
                      - Kindle and accessories.
                      - Kitchen Aid mixer
                      - Kids toys for Xmas
                      - Case for my laptop
                      - Bathing suits for trips
                      - Baby gifts - especially zip-up blankets (sort of kid Snuggies)

I generally buy everything I can from Amazon. I've bought big screen TV's, stereo equipment, furniture items, power tools, linens, towels, tuperware, small appliances, dishes, glasses, fine china, crystal, etc. I generally despise shopping, running around town hunting for the lowest price on something.

If I can't get it on Amazon, then my next choices are Lowes and Costco. I buy most of my grocery items at Costco.

Price isn't the only thing - it's very convenient to buy on Amazon, as long as it's somewhat reasonable - I can search for and purchase items from my iPhone too. The coolest part it that, unlike many online merchant sites, I can keep a library of shipping addresses that don't match my credit card billing address. That way, I can easily ship items to Mom, Sister, a buddy, whatever.

I LOVE Amazon. It is the site I prefer to shop at and I use all the time because they are so reliable and have great prices. I also buy a lot of used stuff on the AMazon marketplace. I have purchased everything from books, CD's, vacuum cleaner, breadmaker, electronics, clothing and on and on.
In the early years of the internet, I purchased a VHS tape of an old movie. We got the tape and used it a couple of weeks and I emailed and they immediately mailed me out a new one which I received with an envelope to mail back the broken one. I was surprised that they would go ahead and mail me the new one without first requiring the return, so that sold me. If you have never shopped there, I highly recommend that you do as you won't be disappointed.

I basically treat Amazon like a department store. Anything I would buy locally I can buy on there except clothes and shoes. I am surprised you thought the groceries more expensive. I used them to buy a case of canned pumpkin when the local store either didn't carry it or it was expensive. Vitamins tend to be cheaper there as well if you use them. Primarily I use them for kitchenware, electronics (cords especially) and entertainment supplies (books, cd, etc).

It looks like you can sell on them Ebay for almost face value. Some auctions have even higher bids than the face value - go figure.
