The first part of January 'The Hubster' and about ?10-15? got laid off in their division/separate plant and then the main plant closed down permanently, which probably took 200-300 people with it. A custom manufacturing facility tied to the retail sector. Hubster had been there 41+ years.

How many people do you know who've been laid off?

Three.
It's interesting because just about everyone we know had a layoff (one per household) in 2002 - 2003. A lot also in 2005.
I find it kind of refreshing that our region isn't hit so hard, for once.
The three people I am thinking of have been laid off at least 3 times in the last decade though. (High tech industry). So it's certainly rough.
It seems like everyone is worried about their jobs though. Many of them have survived layoffs at their job or are expecting a layoff. A lot of relatives and friends working for local government (cutting back), start ups that need a lot of funding, or large companies that are swinging their axes. They are all pretty nervous.

I know of about 9 people personally. Six were my wife's co-workers and 1 was my brother 1 nephew and 1 close family friend. They all were working from 1 - 12 years. And by the way, my wife works at a bank so the six co-workers were bankers.

Me. 6 people at my job and quite a few others. I do know that according to the papers when Circuit City finishes their closing they will have unemployed about 30,000 people across the USA. This economy is hitting everyone. According to the news, Target, Best Buy, and a few more are laying off. The only one I personally haven't heard anything on is Wal-mart. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
