  • Tell us about your screen name

Do you ever read people's posts and wonder what their screen name means? I know I do. Some are pretty straightforward, like mine, but others are cryptic. I'm sure they have meaning to their user but leave the rest of us wondering.

    So what does yours mean?

I'm disneysteve. Not too tough to figure out. My name is Steve and I'm a big Disney fan. We go to Disney World annually (though had to skip this year ) and we have a fairly extensive collection of Disney memorabilia dating back to the 1930s, though mostly from the 1970s and on.
    Steve

            cooliemae

I went to a residential high school for my junior and senior year. As I was moving into my room, I heard one of the other new students yelling, "Coolie Mae! Coolie Mae is that you?" The question was being directed towards me. When I told the other student that I was this Coolie Mae, he seemed very downtrodden and explained to me that I looked like his friend Coolie Mae. My new roommate thought it was hilarious because apparently the real Coolie Mae is black, and I'm not. So the name stuck in high school and I've used it ever since as my internet personality.

Mel Gibson had a movie once about the Vietnam War called "We Were Soldiers". I think. In the movie, his position was over-run by the enemy, and he made a distress call, Broken Arrow, which is asking for all the allied support to bombard everything they had on their own position. In this case, it was better to risk destruction by their own hands as a last-ditch effort to survive, rather than face certain destruction at the hands of their enemy.

Psychologically, that's how I felt about my financial situation at the time, that things have gotten so desperate that I would take whatever extreme measures necessary to get back to financial health, even if it meant having to hurt myself somehow....

I always thought maybe your favorite movie was "Broken Arrow", the one with John Travolta, and Christian Slater.

Anywho, the name Pitman was a nickname given to me by my friend Alan in 97 who passed away in 2000. My family, and I moved to the North Bronx on a block called Pitman Ave. I remember him clearly saying "man nobody lives on this block, matter of fact, I'ma call you Pitman from now on". The name kind of just stuck since then. All my friends call me "Pitman" or "Pit" for short.

FrugalFish- Well, I'm frugal and "fish" is part of my name. I also swim like a fish, but I don't drink like a fish.

Yes, the one where Christian Slater's character is trying to steal a stealth bomber filled with nuclear bombs? That's not a bad example either, although it wasn't what I was originally thinking on when I settled on the alias.

simpletron is a low-level programming language, that I had to write a compiler for computer science class. I thought it was a cool sounding name for my internet alias.

Caoineag is gaelic for banshee (great tragedy and loss is said to befall those who hear the caoineag's cry). Pronounced like cognac. I have a lot of scottish heritage, its a unique name and at the time I had lost over half my family. I wasn't feeling particularly chipper, especially since I had lost my mother, maternal grandmother and maternal great aunt in less than a year.
