  • Hey guys! I have 3 goals for 2007, resolutions if you will.

    1. Pay off the $20,000 worth of CC debt we have
    2. Get my house in order via FlyLady
    3. Lost a total of 77 lbs.

I started South Beach on October 16, 2006 and have lost 29 lbs to date! I'm still going strong and highly motivated!

I'm starting a 6 week challenge on another message board where we are put on teams. I have drink 1/2 my body weight (in ounces) in water, eat "beachy", give up my dark chocolate (my one indulgence), and increase the intensity of my exercise each week.

The coming weeks exercise is: (for those interested)
M/W/F: HIIT (High intensity interval training) 20 minutes, run on the elliptical 20 minutes.
T/TH: weights, stability ball work, stretch
Sat: stability ball class (one heck of a workout!)

    I am an exercise nut!

      • Thanks Ima!! I get a bit obsessive about things, and weight has been my obsession since October. I've added in the house and now we're trying to add back the finances again...all as my obsessions. I've never worked on three obsessions at once, so this should be interesting!

I haven't read through the entire thread, but what are you doing to try to lose weight? Are you still eating out most nights?

        • Ok guys, let's kick this into gear!!

I hit the gym this morning with new motivation! I did 20 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training and got my HR up to 180!! Wahoo!! Then I did the interval training program for 30 minutes. I was on the elliptical for a full hour. Now I wish I could go take a nap. But I can't. LOL!

I am going to get through the day without any dark chocolate! It CAN be done!

          Food:
          1 egg + 1 egg white + 1 C broccoli

          • Kristen, great job on the workout today! You really hit it hard!

You might want to look at increasing your calories in the morning after such a hard workout. You only had 116 calories!! Personally, I eat 1200 calories a day, but start out with about 210. I eat Kashi instant oatmeal with high fiber and protein, 1/4 c. fiber one cereal and 1/4 c. frozen raspberries each morning for about 210 calories. I occassionally do an hour of cardio, but usually it is only 30-40 minutes. Then I lift weights for about 30 minutes.

You stated you were tired, so that is why I brought up the calorie issue. You would just have to adjust calories elsewhere. This website has good calorie calculators NutritionData.com NutritionData's Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter

Keep up the good work everybody. I'll check back in on Wednesday with my new weight loss status. I may have hit my goal. I'm still deciding if I need to adjust it down.

            • Thanks CCfree! I mess around with calories all the time. I have two things at play here. 1. I have PCOS which, in short, means that my insulin is messed up. also I start my day with no carbs, for the most part. That keeps me blood sugar in check. Also, I am just not hungry in the morning, and cereal, oatmeal and yogurt are all triggers for me. I am ravenous within an hour if I eat any of those, but can go four hours if I just stick to proteins and veggies. I figure there are carbs in veggies too. 2. I get tired because of the PCOS. It's another symptom.

But, excuses aside, you're not the first person to tell me to eat me. I just don't like to hear it! LOL! I also don't like to count calories, though I know I should. But I try to eat 6 mini meals per day.

This morning I was particularly tired because my workout was just that intense. I actually feel better this afternoon than I expected to!

              How is everyone else doing?

              • Kristen I will not comment on your food intake anymore. I have no idea how to handle your situation!! I'm glad you are feeling better this afternoon. I'm sure your workout today will motivate someone to get off the couch.

I did 30 minutes on the crossramp (like a crosstrainer) today and burned 355 calories. Just remembered I forgot to write this down in my food journal. I also lifted weights!

                • Oh, no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to bite your head off! Comment away! Feel free! I need it sometimes! You made me think yesterday. I mean, you are absolutely right. I just have to tweak my diet a bit, that's all. I may hate being told to eat more, but that doesn't mean I don't need to hear it! LOL!

Also, I was obviously quite tired when I responded to you! Could I have any more crazy typos? LOL!

I had a great workout this morning. I really pushed myself again. About a month ago I decided to do HIIT on the stairs at home. I ran up and down as fast as I could for 20 minutes. I killed my legs!! Seriously, I couldn't walk without my legs buckeling and I was in so much pain! LOL! But, I decided it must be a great workout for my legs! So I have started adding WALKING up and down my stairs for TEN minutes. It is a fantastic addition to my strength training! It gets my heart pumping and it just feels so good.

So to anyone who does not have a gym membership, if you have stairs, that is all you need!! Just be careful! LOL! Start out slow. You may be ok to do it, but you may not be so ok the next day!

I managed to get through yesterday with no chocolate too! Yay!

CCfree, 355 calories in 30 minutes is awesome!! On the elliptical I think I am generally just under 300 in that amount of time and I push it pretty hard.

                    • Kristin good job on the working out today. I believe you on the stairs. It doesn't take too many stairs to get a good workout and your legs do notice it.

I did the crossramp thing again today...another 350 calories burned. I was reading magazines while I worked out so it took me 32 minutes to get there today. I also lifted weights. I use about 8-9 machines that get all the body parts. I do two sets of 15 reps on each.

motherof1child, I don't know much about akins except that it might be high in protein. What don't you like about it?

                      • Yes, mother of 1, what are you having trouble with? I do South Beach, and I know phase 1 (like the inducation phase) is very difficult! The first three to four days were head-achey and sleepy!! Is that what you are hating?

                        • Good morning!!

I am struggleing to eat more today. CCFree, you are not the only one to tell me I need to. Apparently my 1 egg + 1 egg white breakfast is a bit pitiful. LOL!

I had a fantastic workout out this morning and though of you when I looked at the calories. I burned 320 calories doing HIIT in 20 minutes and another 350 doing regular intervals for 30 minutes. It doesn't mean much though. HIIT revs up the metabolism for up to 48 hours following the workout, so I don't worry about the calories anymore.

Anybody having trouble with finances and dieting? It's a bit of a strain on the wallet, but we're getting through it. My crockpot is my new best friend again. I've just had to switch to lower carb recipes. I like to prepare crockpot recipes ahead and freeze them for the week. I thaw, toss them in the crockpot, turn it on and go. I don't have time at 4:50 AM to put together a recipe to throw in the crockpot!

                          • I weighed in today. I lost 0.8 pounds this week. I have lost a total of 18 pounds since Jan 3 2007. I am so close to my goal. Maybe next week.

Although I'm thinking of trying to lose an additional 3 pounds past my goal weight. Then my job will be to maintain my weight between those three pounds.

I did my same workout as yesterday, another 350 calories burned on cardio equipment. I think I've done the interval training before and it is challenging and kind of fun. How are you doing yours Kristen?

My husband is counting calories too. It has been a positive experience on our finances. I have saved at least $15 a week on groceries, even though I might be buying more expensive foods. We eat smaller servings of those foods and are buying less snack foods. It's been a nice surprise. Or maybe I'm not feeding my kids!! LOL! Just kidding!

                            • I'm housesitting and I seem to do more exercise when I'm somewhere else, since this place has a lot of stairs. I'm doing to take the dog for a walk in a while, and since we'll be tromping through snow it should be good.

I weighed myself on their scale this morning, 132! AT home it was 135, but even a few pounds is better than nothing. Goal is size 6 or 125. If I'd exercised more I'd loose quicker but I really don't like to exercise.

                              • baking23, a 3 pound drop is great!! It will be nice to get out in the fresh air and getting some exercise. You can also lose weight by decreasing your calorie intake. One needs a 3500 calorie deficit per week to lose 1 pound per week.
