Ugh - reading my yogurt pkg. this a.m. and even it has high fructose corn syrup in it!! Where does one obtain yogurt w/o it? Can it be had at the regular grocery in the form of plain yogurt w/o the fruit?
Try buying plain yogurt by the quart and adding in frozen fruit... it's cheaper and healthier. I bring yogurt to work in small containers like this. By the time I eat it at lunch the fruit has thawed into a creamy, fruity delicous blend.
I'll join! I haven't been on much lately because I have been focusing on losing the weight (again) that I gained in the last half of 2006 from a side effect of my blood pressure medicine. I've joined Weight Watchers online and have already lost 6 pounds in the past 2 weeks.
Yes, all through elimination and me digging up information on my own we finally know what caused the sudden weight gain, heart palpitations, racing heart, spike in blood pressure, sudden drop in blood pressure, pitting edema, etc. It was my blood pressure medicine! Just what you think is keeping you healthy, isn't!
They decided that the cyst in my brain is not anything to be concerned about as long as it doesn't increase in size, the stress test that they thought showed something wrong with my heart turned out to be fine, and all the other tests I went through came back fine.
Once my BP dropped and I quit taking the blood pressure medicine I started losing the water weight (14 pounds of it!) and started feeling normal again. My heartrate went back to the 60s and 70s. It had been in the 80s, 90s, and 100s for a couple of months when just sitting. I am feeling good again and have been able to start exercising again.
I go back for a checkup this week and am working with all my might to not have to take another BP medicine. I take my BP twice a day and record it and report in once a week with my average. It has been slowly creeping back up but I'm hoping to control it with weight loss and exercise.
I lost about 50 pounds before all this happened and I can do it again!
Well, I am glad that it was nothing serious, I mean that is bad enough, but now at least you know. You should try a different type of blood pressure medicine, maybe?? We are all pulling for you to lose the weight!!
Thanks Julie. To go from 145 to 195 in 4 months was not a pleasant experience (and a bit expensive with having to buy new clothes in bigger and bigger sizes every few weeks!). Not to mention the psychological effects it had. Here I was an administrator on a fitness forum with an appearance (however brief) in a fitness infomercial and all of a sudden my weight is ballooning out of sight and I felt like I had absolutely no control.
It has really helped to know the cause and now be able to do something about it.
I am sure knowing the cause has taken a lot of worry off of your shoulders! I am so glad you found something out and are back on track! I hope you saved all your old clothes.
LOL! Yes, I did! They are packed away in our garage apartment. Can't wait to get them back out. It will be like getting a whole new wardrobe again. Without the expense!
I weighed in this morning and lost the pound I gained back last week! So I'm officially down 5lbs since January 1!
What made this even sweeter (no pun intended) was that I actually "cheated" during the week by eating a few things here and there that weren't the best choices. Goes along with my philosophy that I'm not dieting and depriving, just trying to do things in moderation. So I'm thrilled about that.
I've made a few daily changes that haven't bothered me a bit, but must be making a difference. Oatmeal for bfast instead of bagel and cream cheese (you think?!), Equal and low fat cream in my coffee instead of sugar and half-and-half, and fruit, dates, and nuts for lunch instead of pizza, pasta, or sandwhiches. Those things still allow me to have pretty much whatever snack I like in the afternoon (that whole deprivation thing) and a normal dinner with meat/starch/veggie. I think I can keep this up...
I bought some of those murray sugar free wafers. They are really good and satisfy my urge for something sweet. I also like the Hood low fat choclate milk. It is low in carbs too.
