Joan, maybe your body is telling you you've reached your natural weight and it's happy? I wouldn't sweat over it so long as you're a healthy BMI. Is another 8 lb really going to make you look a thousand times better?

Could be...I definitely feel better now then with the extra 8 pounds. That said, I haven't been quite as consistent as I'd like with the eating and the exercise, so there may be a little more room for improvement.
An added incentive: my bil is a pretty avid runner, and I committed to running a 5K with him next Spring. (I used to run cross-country in High School, so it's not a completely foreign idea, though it was a mighty long time ago). That gives me 10 months or so to get into decent shape, which may help more with the weight loss...

Oh, I'd love to be able to run a 5k. I'm sure I could do it...but would my back like it afterwards? I'm so used to doing most of my exercise on the treadmill or other machine. Must try it one of these days. Actually, waiting to get new running shoes AND new smaller spring clothes. I've been wading around in my size 12 capris and even my size 10 jeans. I'm somewhere between a 8 and a 10 in pants. I'm so committed to staying at this weight that I put my larger 12 and 14 jeans, capris, shorts and pants up for sale on ebay this week....so if anyone is looking for those types of things browse around.
I'm so proud of all of you for checking in...even when the scale doesn't move!My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

Well, things are finally starting to happen now that I've started Weight Watchers. According to my scale at home, I've lost 3 more pounds since I last posted here, for a total of 4. (Started at 229, and 225 this morning.)
The reading on my scale is different from the WW scale, which is different from the doctor's scale! And I lost a little before starting WW. So I'll just keep reporting what my home scale shows, for purposes of this thread.

To NitaJaye--I could conceivably try to lose 100 pounds, as that would put me back at my high school weight from 35 years ago. But I'll be very happy if I can lose 50.
I agree it's very discouraging, thinking about losing that many pounds. FYI, at Weight Watchers now they automatically make your first goal to take off 10% of your starting weight. After that, you meet with your leader to set the next goal. So right now I'm focused on a 22 pound loss, which is much less intimidating than 50. Could you think of a smaller goal to start with, and reward yourself before trying to lose more?
Also FYI about the water--WW has you drink 6 glasses of water a day. Same for everyone, regardless of weight. Gee, you don't want to float away!

Laceshawl, thank you for the encouragement, but actually my goal to lose 8 pounds is quite modest. No, I am not at a healthy BMI, that eight pounds just seemed like a weight I could achieve and live with for life. My BMI was 31.1 when I first posted here. That 8 pound goal would have brought me to 30.7, still too high. More importantly, I have type 2 diabetes, which for almost all type 2s does improve with weightloss. Keeping my blood glucose under control is an even more important matter to me than weight, and I have got really good control over that. But weight control and blood glucose control go hand in hand, for me.
No, I'm not discouraged. I am really pleased with what I have come to and feel like I made those changes slowly enough that it is my mind that has a new setpoint, not my body. My mind sees portions in a whole new way. I can honestly say now that I am in total agreement that the portions served at restaurants are immorally huge! It used to be that I could and would very easily eat the entire amount served at a restaurant. Now it seems ridiculous. A few months ago, I ate a a chain family restaurant and ordered off of their little calorie conscious menu. Even that was twice the food I needed. (So I brought half home for the next days lunch).
I've tried to reduce calories to the extent that would eventually be the same amount that would maintain the weightloss. But I have not counted calories. I'll consider doing for a short time if I think I need to readjust my mind's setpoint again, to reset it to a further curtailed calorie load."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

It boggles my mind. I got on the scale today to weigh myself. (I normally do Monday morning, but was travelling Mon-Wed this week for work, so I hopped on today). I lost 2 pounds from my last check in, for a total of 10. WAHOO. What's bizarre is that I haven't walked on the treadmill for a week and a half (busy with Communion, work and the like), and while I was trying to watch what I ate, between the Communion party and the eating out for work, I'm sure I ate more than my 1600-1800 calorie goal. So I weighed myself expecting to see a pound or two gain, and was thrilled to see that I actually lost. Other weeks when I feel like I've been doing everything right, I gain. I just don't get it, but I'll take it!
One good thing that came out of the weigh-in is that I'm TOTALLY inspired to get back on the treadmill. I didn't want to stop doing it, it just kind of happened because of the schedule. I'll be back on later today.
Way to go everyone, you're all doing great!

A little late, but I'm going to join in! My BMI is currently 25.3. I'm using my FitDay program again, keeping track of my calories in vs. calories burned. Today I did well with a calorie balance of -423 calories, but the couple of days before that I ate more than I burned. oops. I'm glad I did better today.

me too
I'm late joining (new here) but I started the Atkins after coming back from spending New Year's in Paris 10 lbs heavier than when I left 3 weeks earlier.
I was up to 140, now I hover around 125-128 so you can add my 12-15 lbs to your total.
My problem before....I only ate about once a day and in Paris, it was a baguette a day, with an occasional meal here or there. Since I started Atkins, I actually eat on a regular basis, have a fairly normal appetite again (which left after my divorce) and seem to be heading on the right track.
I hope to lose about 5-10 more lbs in the coming months...so I'll check in again.
Good luck everyone!
