Re: Where Is the Best Place To Hide Money In Your House?

The January 15 issue of Bottom Line Personal (look for it in your local library) had this very subject as an article, supplied by a long-term police officer. One idea proffered was to double bag your loot and store it in flour tins and cans.

Ican't save, I know who you are, you have been in my house!![Automated by GetSmile]

I don't think hiding it in food is a good idea. when I was robbed, they spent the night and ate a bunch of stuff! I put my stuff in the safe when I am going to be gone.

Ahahaha, that's hilarious! I've never heard of burglars making themselves at home until now. Most are always in such a rush!

Still though, for the price you pay, I don't think hiding it in cans is necessarily that bad of an idea.

Of course, there are better options, but they would also cost considerably more. Safes are fine, for example, so long as they are bolted down.

People who are very serious generally will have their own "danger rooms". Some are so sophisticated, they're like walk-in vaults, complete with its own power source and air ventilation systems that can even filter out radioactive particles.

Of course, the more sophisticated it is, the more expensive it can become. Me, I'm on a ramen budget so, I tend to rely on the much cheaper alternatives of hiding either in existing structures or in plain sight.

I've hidden chocolate from my three boys in a tampon box!

I keep my extra change hidden from family (not burglars) in an empty plastic jug from kitty litter. I use it for surprises (or bills) and really don't want it spent.

Shaving cream bottle (top part is real, bottom is to hide things in)

                How creative!

My grandmother once showed me a secret hiding place in their basement, behind a loose cinder block. Sadly, when my grandfather died and they sold the house, i never learned if anyone retrieved the money. My mother doesn't know, either. As i understand, the house was since razed by new owners and a new one built on the premises.

I hide paperbills inside old letter envelopes with the old letters in it.

I hope there are no burglars reading this thread.

Can't believe that anybody hasn't said, "Take it to the Bank". I have a 800/lb. safe in my garage that I got free from an old boss that didn't want it anymore. Keep a bunch of old coins, titles to cars, insurance documents in it. Holding part of the safe is only about the size of a 2 gallon jug. I have around 900 record albums, so if I was to hide cash, it would probably be in one of those. Years ago, the neighborhood went through a bunch of thefts (mostly garage type break-ins), and I bought chains and padlocks and secured everything down. Now I'm getting older and so is my stuff, so I don't lock up a lot of stuff like I used to--I figure if somebody needs it that bad, they might as well take it, cause all my stuff is so old, it will only cause the thief more grief.

I'm keeping my stash in an empty paint can in our garage...

We have one of those monster big old Oxford English dictionaries. For a while I ahd a bit tucked away under "M" for money. That was so I could remember what the heck I did with it.

I think the burglars who stopped to have a meal visted my place when I was a child. We had a burglar who took a shower, used up the shampoo (a lot!), picked some wildflowers from our field and left them in a jar on our dining table. Stole my only nice blouse and a radio. I figure it was someone desperately dirty who wanted to re-join clean society...with musical accompaniment, I guess.

Probably the best hiding place would be in my wallet.

I know that's the last place I'd ever expect to find any cash.

                                Ditto!

I always told my husband (prekids) onelookinour house, and run away!

with computers in variousstates of build and piles of stuff, everywhere...no one could find anything useful...including us!

Now that the house has rugrats, it is much neater, aside from the kids toys.......all the stuff is in boxes...and Ifigure if I had money to hide, I would store it in one of them...in fact I might, and then tell my husband and see how long it took him to empty theboxes to find it!
