I normally do not hide money in the house, but I would put it in the freezer. Disguise it so it doesn't stick out.I would suggest the bottom of a package or box in a bag.

Saving cash (whether physically or in a bank account) as an investment is a losing proposition considering inflation. A small amount for emergencies in a bank account probably makes the most sense.
If you want to hedge your bets, gold and/or silver is the way to go. If you worry that during an emergency you won't be able to get it out of a safe deposit box, the only reasonable method of securing it is the bolted down fire safe.
Once I realized how much my gold and silver had appreciated and thought about how easy it would be for someone to walk off with it (it was in a cheap office fire safe - not bolted down) it was time to get a quality safe and have it proffesionally installed.
I didn't bother to hide it since it is a full-size gun safe. My hope is that once the thieves see that it's a Cannon and bolted down they will figure that anything of high value will be inside and give up before trashing my place too bad.

If I had to hide some cash I'd take a ratty looking ace bandage and roll the cash up in it and toss it in a bathroom sink drawer next to a tube of Bengay. It wouldn't look out of place there and I haven't seen the idea above.

          if the amount is huge

          save it in bank

that's the way to do it

but if you really want to hide your money

          underneath the carpet will do

or inside a caserole in the kitchen

I personally think that the best place to hide money is in a safe that is built into your cupboards right at the back or amongst things that don't look like its worth steeling for example behind lots of handbags. If not then put it in a bank, but you can never guarantee that your money will be safe.

According the police, burglars always look for the easy way. If a lock box or small home style safe is bolted from the inside to studs, not easily removed, they'll choose under the mattress, in drawers, cupboards, desk, behind the commode, books and they can spot the loose carpet corner or floorboard hide.

Entertaining thread. I never really have enough cash or gold at my place after relatives were burglarized of jewelry worth thousands by their own daughter's friends. If I did, probably go with freezer idea.

I heard someone mention the hollows of curtain rods. Roll the cash in there. Another created a niche in the top of a solid wood door in his son's room. I also heard of double bagging your money. Threading fishing line (for it's strength) through the top of the baggy and tying it to your heating/cooling registers. Great place for jewelry too.

A good place to bury item(s) is under the yard/garden stepping stones. Easy to watch and locate.

                        • If you're trying to hide money from teenagers, then putting it under a pair of dirty socks in the middle of the room assures it will never be found.

All you have to do is wash it out, cut the top open, put your money in a bag and put it somewhere in the bathroom, no one will ever suspect.

                            • Money stays in a bank. I keep something for the daily cash needs. The car's tank is always full (well, both cars) and I have 3-4 bank accounts and paypal so that, if anything happens, I can get my money from somewhere. In romania we have plastic banknotes, so we can really go nuts with stacking them in water or any environment, since they are not getting damaged
