Re: Where Is the Best Place To Hide Money In Your House?

some neighbors of mine were robbed it showed their house on the news it was so unbelievably clutter I can not see how the thieves found anything worth stealing and how the owners could tell what was gone.

My house is so clutter free I do not think they would find much of interest a computer and a TV maybe and like another poster pointed out my stuffs getting old so they would be nuts to take it LOL

My son gave me a little Dr pepper can that the lids screws off of to reveal a hiding spot,I do not use it as he gave it to me at Christmas with a house full of people.

I usually keep some cash in the kitchen in a coffee can which I figure is the first place a thief would look for it. I am afraid to get too creative with hiding it or I will forget what I did with it

I like the tampon/pad idea and the bottom of the kitty litter box. I'll have to try that out sometime

Here is the best place <a href="http://www.pfadvice.com/2007/02/05/the-best-place-to-hide-money-conversation-with-a-burglar/">according to a former burglar</a> I met over the weekend.

          Excellent article!

It mostly jives with what I've already known, but it also shed certain details that I had not known before.

My problem with hiding places like fake shaving cream cans, tampon boxes, crusty underwear, etc. is the risk of someone unwittingly throwing away the container is probably a lot higher than the risk of a thief actually breaking into your house searching for cash.

have you all watched the show "it takes a theif " I love that show and it has tought me a lot

especially the don't bother havoing a safe if you do not bolt it to the floor or lock it,as it is a handy to go box for theifs ;-)

I have been wanting my Dh to install a key box so the theives cannot drive our vehicles away so easy but Dh resists as he is not sure what we would do with the key to the key box ;-)

get the kind that has a push-button combination lock. that way, there's no key to the keybox!

Re: Where Is the Best Place To Hide Money In Your House?

The only thing I would say about it is the bravado that ex-burglar is displaying. He's right to some extent. They can and will turn a house inside out, because they know that the longer they work it, the more they are likely to find.

However, regardless of bravado, it really depends on how much time they think they have, don't they? If they think they'll get caught anytime soon, they probably won't have time to tear your house apart, even if they want to. However, if they think they've got all night....

Earlier, I've made a response on where I really hide my money, but... then decided to delete it. However, I'll just briefly summarize that I personally don't have it anywhere I have mentioned thus far, and that simple burglary won't be enough. That and my primary concern is losing my small weaponry collection instead of my cash.

An alternative that hasn't been mentioned yet is to hide it somewhere in your vehicle. However, that's not so much security as it is convenience, since it's likely that you can be out and about when your find yourself in an immediate emergency situation, or if an imminent emergency should arise, you'll be piling into the car anyways. Either way, this tactic has been long known by gun folks a la the trunk rifle concept. This works best if you have a garage, but it's something that's worth considering I think.

Last but not least, I want to emphasize something that he slyly remarked in the beginning of the article. The easiest way to solve a lot of this issue is to simply have a bank deposit box.

Get some gold coins, and hide them inside unused sections of old metal water pipes in your house. Just remember where you hid them...

Re: Where Is the Best Place To Hide Money In Your House?

I used to keep my money in the glove box of my car *which is lockable*. However, my car was broken into on Christmas Eve. The theif thought he hit the jackpot, but missed the money in the glove box, not to mention my PURSE in the back seat hidden behind the carseat.

Now, I just keep all my "extra"money in my savings account. If a big hurricane is coming, then I'll take it out of the bank.

why not just invest in a home security system?

I don't have any money to hide at home!! I guess my money is hid in the bank. I always figure if there is an emergency I will drive to the ATM and get money out!!
