Jewelsmom, I like that: "early American Garage Sale!"

We had friends over yesterday with their baby girl (7 mos) and she was banging some keys on the table -- they were all worried, I was like,, WHy? I LOVE the cottage look!

Here's the quote I'll contribute tonight:

      Thornton Wilder:
Money is like manure; it's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow.

"If you watch the pennies...the dollars will take care of themselves" - My father is notorious for saying this. Makes sense when you think about it.

"Numbers don't lie...people lie" - Another one from the wisdom of dad!

            Or the variation I like,

"What I've learned about thrift and frugality I learned the hard way -- by making my mistakes and digging myself out. The present-day benefit of past experience is that I'm not so eager to opt for immediate gratification at the pain of future debt. I'm less convinced that happiness can come from stuff, however glitzy, or that a credit card can serve as a get-out-of-me-free pass. I've learned that wanting is transitory, that having is often burdensome, and that discardiing can be the path to freedom. " ~Bookie, SavingAdvice.com thread Frugal By Nature.

Wow Bookie - this is excellent. You're quite the wordsmith!

I like what my friend, Uncle Tito, says:

"Honey, life is a s--t sandwich. The more dough you have, the less s--t you eat!"

"Lotteries are a state sponsored tax on the stupid. " ~Jackie, a/k/a Jacklad, on SavingAdvice.com thread called "Stupid Things People Thought About Finance."

‘Because we all have different amounts of money, time, space and personal energy and different ideas about what constitutes quality of life, we each must find our frugal balance.’ ~Amy Dacyczyn, of Tightwad Gazette fame

"Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny should take a few pointers from the mutual-fund industry [and it's fund managers]. All three are trying to pull off elaborate hoaxes. But while Santa and the bunny suffer the derision of eight year olds everywhere, actively-managed stock funds still have an ardent following among otherwise clear-thinking adults. This continued loyalty amazes me. Reams of statistics prove that most of the fund industry's stock pickers fail to beat the market. For instance, over the 10 years through 2001, U.S. stock funds returned 12.4% a year, vs. 12.9% for the Standard & Poor's 500 stock index." ~Jonathan Clements, Only Fools Fall in ... Managed Funds?, Wall Street Journal, September 15, 2002
