Re: I f you know then, what you know now, what is something you would never do again.

I would've gotten counseling to deal with some major issues from childhood. I think a LOT of my other poor decisions (guys I dated, debt I racked up) all stem from some issues I wouldn't/couldn't face.

And I knew I needed counseling; was just too da**ed prideful or something to get it.

But I am not going to beat myself up today (I dont' think that's what this thread is about). I'm just going to thank God that I have a wonderful, loving husband, and a healthy life and attitude to keep me going in the right direction!

I would have tried to figure a way to stay in college!

I would have not picked the degree I did in college as it useless when I'd still get paid the same as any other "joe schmoe" who walks in off the street would. & there's no real jobs around here for what I wanted to do. I thought guidance councilors were supposed to GUIDE you thru picking out schools ect.

I would have gotten married a lil sooner to dh perhaps?

Not watch my mom's bad eating habbits & listen to her awful advice. As she's a diabetic w/ a sweet tooth & a big over eater... hence me not knowing anybetter til it was too late.

I never would have stuck with my loser, going nowhere, boyfriend who I supported on my meager waitress tips for 2 years while he laid on the couch in his undies. If I had saved that money, I wouldn't have had to take out a loan for the last year of college.

I would have listened to my intuition and realized that one of my boyfriends was, in fact, gay.

I should have never attempted to sell Mary Kay. I lost 2300 bucks just to realize that I hate selling Mary Kay.
Sounds like you attended the school of hard knocks on many of these! Think how much wiser you are now at 23 than some people are at 60!

1. Have a child with my husband,
2. or have a child with my husband in a country that pathologizes extreme "left-brainedness" and intellectual curiosity. Interesting that all these early development cognitive psychology/neuroscience disorders are emerging labels for children of gifted people.
3. drank soft drinks bottled in the U.S. (HFCS)
4. made an advance payment of $1141 into the mortgage

I am interested in what you mean by the items in your list. What's wrong with pop in the US?

HFCS = High fructose corn syrup, the gastronomical equivalent to Agent Orange.

I mean, nobody drinks pop for his or her health, unless they're transitioning from fortified wines and heavy alcohol drinking, but there is significant medical and nutritional research linking HFCS to obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.

I need to put a disclaimer: I forgot about KOSHER Coca-Cola, and I would drink that. I'm Gentile from the Pacific Northwest, it's an easy thing for me to overlook if it's not sold in my area.

Also, a Dr. Pepper plant in Dublin, Texas uses cane sugar.
Canada and Mexico use cane sugar in their preparation of Coca-Cola.

Ooh, good thread. I never should have put my emergency fund (or at least not the entire amount) in a mutual fund. I did this during the bear market of 2000-02 and lost a few thousand when I had to use my emergency fund.

I lost quite a bit of money during that period also. Some were stocks that I really regret, they are worth very little today!!

Not stupidity. You were probably very naive.

I would never have bought a boat! They are to expensive to maintain, and I did not like boating that much.

We had some neighbors who had a boat and would go out about every weekend in the summer. One of them finally asked the other if it was worth it. They both discovered they kept the boat because they thought the other one liked it! They were happy to sell the boat and the trouble and the expense.

We just never thought about having to pay rental space for it and all the gas it took! It was a big mistake but we thought it was a good idea at the time!!
