  • Do you like your job? Do you do anything to save or make more$ on the job?

I often wonder how many people actually like their jobs. Probably more folks just tolerate them as an evil necessity in life eh?Yet if it suits you and provides for basic needs +some extra, maybe that is something to be thankful for. Curious if there little things any of you do while at work to make/save a little $$ or time? Do you like your job? I have only a few from as of lately:

    1. When re-newing auto insurance, I changed the policy from business to personal use. The State pays for their persons in the event of injury or accident so my paying $100 more per year under a business policy didn’t seem pertinent.

    2. I requested $1 per hr raise and it was granted. $42.50 a wk. A lot of money has been saved by not constantly hiring and firing staff for my level 4 & 5 clients. Their behavior and health has improved and I firmly believe it is the mostly organic diet + exercise implemented slowly. Diet is so important. Now there is less turnover because both the clients and staff are happier.

I love my job. But I also don't like my job. I love running a company. I don't like being away from my wife all week.

I have made more money by taking risks. When I retired from the Navy, I passed on the higher paying job doing the same thing I was doing in the military but as a civilian. I could have stayed in that world for 20 years and drawn a second pension. Instead, I took the lower paying job that required a move and a new career path. The latter had great upside but some risk of job loss. That worked out well. Then I took a huge risk last year taking on greater responsibility at a troubled company with many complex issues. That got me to where I am now. I have a 10 year plan and in order to execute that plan, I needed to run a company. Now the world is my oyster and I can be a CEO if I want. I can also retire 5 years early, because the money is good. Had I not taken a risk 8 years ago, I would still be doing what I was doing.

Didn't we recently have a "do you love your job" thread?

As for making extra money at work, I kind of do that. As I've shared before, I do a lot of medical surveys online (mostly). I mainly do them at home, but sometimes when things are slow at the office and I'm caught up on paperwork, I will do them during the work day. So at those times, I'm actually double dipping as I'm drawing my regular salary and doing freelance work at the same time.

Lucky him! My BIL used to have a similar occupation working for Sega. He was paid twenty something dollars and hour to play video games and tell them what he thought.
It reminded me of that movie with Tom Hanks called BIG

I love my job. It's a temp position, but I hope to go permanent as it's union and the benefits are amazing! If things don't pan out that way, it will be very hard to go to another job.

I have ADD and desperately need the structure of a 9-5. Weekends are tough as I feel like I'm drifting and get very depressed. I'm looking at picking up a Saturday job.

As far as saving/making $ at work? We are specifically forbidden from doing any money making on company bandwidth. I just do the regular saving money by bringing my lunch. Coffee here is good and free so that helps. I do tinker around with blog posts (for a blog I haven't actually posted yet) in word documents on my breaks.

I get an hour lunch and sometimes use that time to work on my budget, make changes to financial products and bills, transfer money, stuff like that.

I still really enjoy my job even after weeks since I posted about it on the previous thread.

I do most of my personal business while at work since that is the only time most other places are open as well. I have saved money, spent money online, and talked about money here...all while at work. :P

It might be a repeat, but you get an A for effort in my book for trying to keep the forum alive

I think that's true for most of us who work regular business hours, although the internet has made a lot of that easier since it is more common to be able to conduct business outside of the normal 9-5 schedule.

+1 regarding the A for effort

For those of us that are rarely busy at work, sometimes a repeat topic helps with a very slow day. Also might save us from an embarrassing moment.

That was supposed to be sending people gifs, but once again you don't fail to nail it. haha

I was a nurse for 23 years, first in med-oncology on a hospital floor, then visiting nursing, then worked in a radiation therapy practice (I hated that) and the last 11 yrs was a hospice nurse. The last was my favorite but I also loved visiting nursing. I belong in community health, seeing people in their homes. I became disabled and miss my job very much. I feel like I lost a huge part of myself. Hope to go back.
