Keep in mind that most of these beds come with 10 year warranties. So, $1000 over ten years is only $100 a year.
I would stay away from Sleepy's and Costco.
Macy's always has great deals and you can negotiate. I bought my Sterns&Foster during a holiday weekend sale. Got 15% off the set and walked out with a free frame, bedding, and pillows.

It's a crime, though, that different retailers sell the exact same mattress with different names so that it's very difficult to directly compare.

This thread seems to be a bit older but my boyfriend and I have been thinking about getting a new bed, we are definitely overdue. I have had a Sleep Number before and the one I had would deflate on it's own so I had to constantly be filling it up, and the system was horribly loud so I would avoid doing it late at night. I got my Sleep Number when they first hit the market years ago so hopefully they worked out some of the problems I had with it. We did get a tip on a Posturpedic mattress at Costco the queen size was about $600.00, which is not too bad. Honestly however I feel that I have been sold on the Tempur-Pedic brand, they use the same foam that was developed by NASA to absorb the pressure that occurs during lift off, I can only imagine how this would work on back pressure. The bed evenly absorbs weight and conforms to the individual, plus they guarantee their mattress for 20 years, well worth the price if you ask me, especially if you are uncomfortable on your mattress after only a few years.

buying a new bed
I agree. I feel like the Hubby and I have different preferences on firm beds vs soft pillow top. I know that they advertise beds where you can select the varying amounts of firmness per side of the bed, but I am afraid neither of us will want to sleep in the middle because the firmness level will feel so weird! Plus it is so expensive! Any thoughts?
