It's hot here and I'm inside trying to think of cool activities...I thought maybe we could have a thread where we answer the line, "You know you are frugal when..."
So, here's mine:
You know you are frugal when you get more excited going to the library to check out materials than going to the mall.
It doesn't cost me anything to go to the mall. And the mall has a much better book selection thanks to Book-A-Millions store. If I want free lunch, I head over to Costco, also located in the mall, and do the sampling walk.
When...You ask yourself, "What would Grandma and Grandpa have done?" and then that is what you do. Thus the habits of using a kitchen spatula to get every last drop; saving useful containers, rubber bands that hold the newspaper, heavy used nails, straight pins that come in new shirts, branched prunings to grow peas on, and long straight pruned limbs as bean poles; inquiring whether the wood planks from crating an industrial size air conditioner are free for the taking; boiling the syrup from canned fruit down to make an ice cream topping; turning sun-faded curtains into covers for the front porch glider cushions; etc.

You must have great self-control! Most folks don't.

Speaking of getting every last drop...it just drives me crazy when I watch the cooking shows and they don't scrape bowls and such and leave so much in.
When you take the skinny bars of hotel soap from a cheap chain to use at an upscale hotel procured on Priceline and then take the upscale's fat bars home to use.
When you're proud you bought a purse at Wal-mart for $11. Mine broke and I'm not about to go out and spend $500 on a purse. I bought mine for $11 and will use it until it breaks. (I own one purse)
Keep in mind, I'm a guy. I think not spending $500 on a purse is smart, not frugal
Also, my frugal note is almost identical to this. My father has been for years now buying his watches for normally $5 or so at Walmart, then dispose of them when they die as they are cheaper than buying a new battery!!
