  • Built a shelf for our microwave

My girlfriend wanted a shelf for our microwave at our cabin.
Looking around, I couldn't find anything that I liked.
Most store bought shelves were cheaply made and just didn't have that cabin feel to them.
So, I decided to build my own.
    Nothing fancy.
I weathered the wood with a vinegar/steel wool solution then gave it a coat of poly.
I have about $50 invested in this project

GF is 5'9'', so no issues there.
Her short friend has protested however

LOL. It looks great but it does look sort of high and I'm 5'10". I don't think I'd want my microwave to be even higher than the refrigerator. I'd be concerned about safely taking hot things out, especially since you need to reach over the stove too. I love the weathering you did to the wood.

I'd recommend finding another place to store your spices. The heat from the stove isn't good for them. Even more importantly, the can of cooking spray is pressurized and flammable. Put that somewhere away from the stove. That's a big fire and burn hazard.

          Excellent point !
A good friend's wife knocked a can of Pam out of cabinet above stove, when it dropped it poked a tiny hole and began spraying, stove was lit and it ignited, catching curtains on fire, quickly out of control and burnt kitchen to toast, plus smoke and fire dept. water damage to most of the rest of the house.

I certainly can't "like" that post. That's terrible but illustrates why your cooking spray should be nowhere near your stove. We keep ours in the pantry on the other side of the room.
