  • My dog died this morning

I found her in the kitchen, gone.

I guess we should be thankful we saved about $500 on Vet costs for tests, Euthanizing, and cremation, but I am not.

She got sick last Wed and the Vet said to monitor her. She seemed to have perked back up and was even ok last night.

I am thankful she died in her sleep.

((Hugs)) Of course, the money savings doesn't compare to the emotional loss. It is a big void when they leave. Take care of you!

thanks guys. It was a long, emotional day.

DH was gone on a business trip, but thankfully, only 2 hours away. He was able to leave by about 9:30am and get home before noon.

He took her outside, so I could at least go back in our kitchen and not have to see her.

Two of the kids and DH dug the grave and buried her. She is now permanently in our backyard, where she loved to be.

We are adjusting to life without her.

We have a 2nd dog and it is so interesting to see her little personality come out stronger after the death of the "alpha dog." She is much quieter and so our house is quieter. The dog that died barked at everything!

My oldest child is 18 and it hit him the hardest. I reminded him that when we first got her we almost had her put down for aggression. She would lunge at the kids. She went to a dog trainer and even he said she was quite aggressive and could potentially be dangerous around young kids. The Vet even recommended we euthanize her. We had 3 young kids at the time.

So, we gave her an extra 10 years she almost didn't have.

That helped him cope a bit better.
