  • All in one PC?

Does anyone here have an all-in-one type PC that they would recommend? We have a very old Dell Vostro PC and are looking for something more sleek and powerful, and the all-in-one form factor is pretty appealing to us. The location will be a desk area in our kitchen.

This HP Pavillion looks nice and has good reviews, but I am open to suggestions under the $800 mark. Thank you!

I bought a Lenovo all-in-one computer a few months ago.
I paid a little over $800 because I got the touch screen feature - I'm not sure why I did that, but I did.
      So far, I'm loving it.
It is a Lenovo C50 with 23" screen. The best price I found was at B&H Photo.

Web browsing, playing pandora, email, skype, viewing photos, some word processing/excel. Pretty basic, and i3 should be fine I would think.

The reviews I've read on that seem to be mixed.

Yeah, they have had a checkered past. The newer ones seem to consume a lot less energy. The driving need is desk space; the slim case and all the cables look horrible and collect all kinds of dust. Wireless keyboard and mouse are must-haves.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite for about $400 at Office Depot (or one of those office places) - I am an FPS gamer and have no problems with games so far. I eventually plan on buying a desktop eventually but only when I hit the limits of this machine. It is heavy for a laptop but....

I try not to bill myself as an Apple fan boy. But my approaching-elderly parents decided they wanted to try becoming computer-savvy in their 60's, including full adoption of smartphones, online shopping, Facebook, online banking, "the cloud," etc.

About 5 years ago I just couldn't support their devices anymore. Every day it seemed like they were calling me about issues with Windows, strange things the computer was doing, weird websites that were popping up, questions on how to make cheap no-brand peripheral devices like backup drives and wireless keyboards, work with a computer (Dell) built with budget hardware. Plus two different brands of phones and proprietary OS--I started feeling like an hourly tech support guy trying to support them remotely, and decided that NO, I AM NOT THINKING SO!!

So I gave them an Apple laptop with OSX and we connected up an Apple Time Capsule (automated wireless backup AND integrated wireless point). Then on their next upgrade cycle they also adopted iPhones. Everything talks, everything updates itself, all devices are compatible, things automatically sync, they can both use and understand each other's devices, and the biggest benefit -- my folks found it all much easier and more logical to use in general.

No, really, I'm not an Apple fan boy, and no, you don't have to be in your 60's to enjoy Apple products. I've had hardware issues with Macs, OSX is a real pain in the ass when it doesn't work (which has been rare..). They're expensive for what they are, in terms of hardware specs. But the form factors are great and the integration is truly seamless, the latter that saves me all kinds of aggravating "the internet is broken and I think I deleted all your dad's stuff, and nasty websites are coming up in my email!" -kind of phone calls, 3x per week. And the telltale sign? Things are much less messed up when I do have to work on their computer.

And the best part? Hall-ej-friggin-lleujah, they go to the Apple genius bar for some of their issues now, and take classes on how to use stuff. Trust me, "WE" couldn't be happier.

Now I'm off to help them fix the holes in their wall from when Mom first tried to "post things to her wall".

my parents were the same, we got them on Apple everything, although neither can handle their plain cell phone so no smart phones. My brother freaking worked for Sir Tim Berners Lee, the guy who really did invent the web, he is a tech genius. But "I refuse to be your tech guy" is his favorite line. So he gifts them expensive computer stuff and tivos and I ended up somehow the "tech guy". And I am not tech savvy.

the Genius Bar is the best thing ever and I am grateful to have one in my town. I am taking the year of unlimited One to One hour long sessions with a Genius that I bought for $100 with my last laptop. They recovered stuff from what I thought was a dead laptop, they are teaching me things at my pace, they don't mind if I come in twice with similar questions because I thought my brain had it, but it was immediately forgotten. It's the best $100 I ever spent. They also help with my iPad and iPhone even though it's only supposed to be the lap top.

maybe you parents would like One to One someday? We gave it to my dad, he never used it, grrr.

Just got a lenovo computer from best buy over black friday deal $300. I think it's a I5 processor. DH was looking for 6 months and planned on buying since early 2015. He'll install our old solid state and use external DVD player.

I bought mom a Barnes and Noble book reader because she could go there to get help. I live in Seattle and she in Bozeman so she can get help from the clerks there. She was angry and hated the reader until she realized that she can now carry her books with her and be able to keep them with her (she is 90 and can't really hold heavy books anymore).
