  • How can I relax (frugally) besides watching TV???!?!

Hi, I'm Ron. I'm new to the forums. So far I love it here. THis is my first question.

At the end of a working day (I'm a programmer) all I want to do is watch TV for 3-4 hours to 'unwind'. However I know this is a monumental waste of time. But it does relax me. What can I do instead which will still relax me?

Could I get massages for maybe an hr each week. Would that enable me to still relax but be able to work even longer hours (to easily pay for the massages)?

I'm single so no sex. haha ha

What works for you? I'm desperate to stop wasting hours each day in front of the boob tube.

I'm a big fan of sitting by a fire listening to music with a cocktail or beer in the evenings.
Outdoor fire pit in the summer and wood stove in the winter.

Try getting some exercise, go for a bike ride or at least take a walk. Exercise is great for stress relief. If you aren't used to exercising, then it won't sound relaxing, but it is quite therapeutic. The first step is the hardest, but once you start it is fairly easy to keep going. I like to set goals and track my progress. No gym membership, I just use the local school track to run and the park near my house has pull up bars and other random equipment.

Massages are good, but I usually feel better after a workout than after a massage.

What kind of programming do you do?

Is the weather nice where you're at this time of year? What about just stepping out your front door and going for a long walk, and see where it takes you?
              History will judge the complicit.

"Relax" is usually something that is done after activity. I enjoy gardening and outdoor activities, and to relax, I like to read and learn from the internet. If you are near water, kayaking and canoeing is enjoyable!

I read the bible, certain books that is. Makes me feel peaceful then I want to fall asleep

A few drops of liquid Kava Kava helps

It seems only time really helps to unwind though, at least for me

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I am an extrovert and I relax by going out for coffee or dinner with friends.
