How can a teenager make money?

I am 14 years old so I am not old enough to get a "real" job, but I would still like to earn some money. I'm hoping to save $1000 by the end of the year. What are some things that I can do to make money even though I am not old enough to have a real job?

Great question, and good for you for thinking about it at your age.

There are lots of non-traditional jobs that you can do. Here are a few ideas.

Babysitting
Dog walking
Cat/Plant sitting (tending to neighbors' homes while they are away)
Mowing lawns
Shoveling snow
Tutoring younger children

Agreed with the above (I don't have any other ideas).

My dad had a business that I worked from as a younger teenager. (Ask around if any business owner friends need help with anything? A lot of my business clients hire employee's kids to do filing for them).

Babysitting, babysitting, babysitting. There always seemed to be plenty of babysitting work - I had a regular babysitting job when I Was 14 (about 8 hours a week).

House/pet sitting was also pretty lucrative for me.

Agreed with both above. Pretty much any household chore can be turned into a paying gig. (washing windows, cleaning up, yardwork, painting, walking the dog, etc.)

Maybe check with your parents if they know of anyone in your area who has the ability to pay for help with extra chores around the house.

You could even print a flyer to hand out to people in your neighborhood. The flyer would list your services that might persuade people that they could use some help.

If you have a particular talent such as drawing, organizing, phone skills, I think you should find many ways to swap those skills for dollars. Evaluate whether family friends can use a file clerk, phone appointment confirmation specialist, or stock putter upper in their businesses.

Those suggestions are applicable, of course you can also do blogging as internet is part of one's daily life. It's really good for your age to think that way, you can start young!

the great thing about the internet is that it's a great equalizer. there are plenty of opportunities to earn online regardless of age, sex, gender. just look around, there's bound to be one niche where you can excel and eventually make money from.

When I was teenager I used to work from home. I was working for part time in my college days it was for development and coding part. But in these days there are so many other options available for teenagers, most probably they prefer to earn online. There are many such companies available which offers freelancing work.

Well, the pet sitting and lawn mowing and car washing neighborhood jobs are not very easy to get.

Just putting a flyer on the front doors doesn't do much, I get them myself and haven't used them.

So here's a few better ideas:

'Don't doo doo' Service-One of the things people HATE to do is pick up the dog doo doo in the back yard. Sorry it is just reality and I BET you could get a regular job cleaning up yards and kennels. It's not pretty but the MONEY IS GOOD. And CONTINUOUS!

Pet Groomer Assistant-the dog groomers (small indie stores and mobile) seem to not be much affected by the recession. Their schedules, at least in our area are FULL. Approach an established groomer and ask if they want a low cost assistant. It is not for the faint of heart, yes, certain dogs are not friendly! But again, the money is going to be GOOD.

I have a 14 y.o. boy and he is in the same boat, wish he would be more inclined to start getting income, not sure how to get him going. Any advice for me?

Do you like to write? The youngest writer I know on Squidoo.com is 12.

You need to write a lot of articles because you'll make most of your money from ads and affiliate marketing is available from Amazon, Ebay, etc, but I don't know if there's a minimum age for that.

It doesn't cost anything to join, so you can try it out and see if you like it.

I agree with the suggestions above too. But you could also try to sell something that you like to do... i don't know... when i was younger i used to like origamis, so i started to make a lot of origami mobiles and other accesories and sell to the people that i know... there are many other works of art handmade that can bring a lot of money... i would try to look for this things too.
