This really depends on your area and where you live but when i was 12-13 i used to buy soda and candy and sell it in my front yard (kind of like a lemonade stand). I did it for two months in the summer and made over $500.00.

Also in some states depending on their child labor laws you can work at 14. What you can actually do is limited but specially during the summer time you should be able to make $1,000 or even more. Most large companies will not hire 14-15 years olds because of their limitations on what they can do but you can always try a mom and pop store.

I don't get it these days how everyone is worried about child labor.Come on! what happened to the days where 11-12 year old kids used to work especially in the summer. I think it it would teach kids about money!!! I don't see anything wrong with a 12 year old kid working in the summer bagging groceries, sweeping floors, stocking shelf's etc..

It's a great idea to start earning your won income at an early age. Even things like babysitting for neigbors is really good experience. Starting out at jobs as a teenager is a great way to learn multiple skills as well as learn what you enjoy and do not enjoy doing.

Watch out for places that target young people - certain companies advertise job postings on places like Craigslist and other forums but they are not legitimate companies ad may not pay you at the end of your work, may not have insurance, and a bunch of other problems. Try to stick with reputable companies or, if you do find a place that may hire you, look them up to see what info you can find on them.

Check out malls, your local paper, job posting sites etc. See where it leads you.

Some states allow younger adults to work in agriculture: picking produce, etc.

i like the mowing lawns idea, if you live in a large suburban area with upscale neighborhoods you can actually make a great business of it.

i mowed lawns around my neighborhood when i was 10 and made a few bucks. i bought a big commercial rotor tiller when i was 22 and did that for 3 or 4 years making some good dough.
retired in 2009 at the age of 39 with less than 300K total net worth

Work in a group with friends

As you are just 14 years old then better to Work with a group of friends. Take your group around the neighborhood after school or on weekends, and offer to get various tasks such car washing, cleaning, society work, etc and this will give you quick money.

The absolute best way to make money as a teenager is mowing lawns. You get paid plenty of money an hour and it is really rewarding. If you really dedicate yourself to it. I bet you can easily save $2,000 this year. Good luck!

                  Lawn Work

If you have a week or so off in the beginning of spring, aerating is a great way to make decent cash fast. If you have a parent or older sibling who can help you out with this for the first year or so, this could be a great opportunity. You can rent a machine and take it around to some large neighborhoods. Be sure you get assistance from a parent as this machine can be heavy and sometimes difficult to use. Even if you can do door to door sales, and you have someone older help you with the labor, you could run yourself a pretty decent business. Again, get some help and advice from a parent.

Try writing articles online through writing sites. I do that and can easily make 8-9 dollars an hour and can set my own hours.

Do projects and sell the stuff you make. Instructables.com has plenty of good ones that are not expensive at all. Just require some tools your parents might have laying around and some can even be bought at the dollar store.

Also I saw one guy buying up all the dollar store energy drinks. I figure he was going to mark them up later since he was fairly particular about the types he wanted. Dollar Tree is everything only a dollar unlike other ones.

Ebay is also one of the great idea, since you can either make your own things and sell them forward at a slightly higher price. The problem with that is that you will need a lot of traveling back and forth between the post office and your home, and getting the items and so on (though you can try checking stamps.com to make the postal part of it a lot easier).
