  • Pet Sitting: Ways to make money

A friend of mine has started pet sitting at other people's houses. People would rather leave their dogs (cats) at home rather than board them.

I agree. My neighbor just paid $50 for my 12 year old daughter to let out her dog this weekend. I think she let the dog out about 7 times. She also took him for three short walks. The dog doesn't do as well as at a kennel as he does at home.

That's so cool of your daughter at her young age.

I don't have a pet right now but I've used pet sitters. I too prefered to leave my dog home. I paid 12 per day. Mainly included two walks one at 7am one at 7pm. I always managed to hire a friend instead of a stranger...

        - Think about things you know and make it into a class. Tach people how to make a budget ;-). I've been thinking about making a baby food class.

Pet sitting can be an excellent way to make some extra money because the cost of boarding pets is fairly expensive these days, plus the owner has the advantage of having their pets in a familiar place while they are away.

I wonder what it costs to board a dog now. We have never left ours, just take them with us.

I prefer pet sitters to the kennel too.

I do a lot of pet sitting. Currently I charge between 30 and 50 per night. It depends on what the owners want done.

I have also sat several times for a family that had 17 horses. Someone else came in and fed them twice a day but i was responsible for being there for insurance purposes as 10 of the horses were not theirs. I was free with time from 7 am to 7pm (to go to work basically) but had to be there from 7 pm - 7 am and most of the time on the weekends. For that they paid me $125/day. I wish they would go on vacation again!!

I also think that pet sitting is a good way to earn money, but letting young children sit strange pets can be a little dangerous. No matter how domesticated an animal is an animal and pets can act strangely when they don't see their owners around.

I think it's an amazing idea. My daughter is 9 and loves animals. We have several ourselves, but she always is attracted to other peoples pets also. This would be a great venture for her and help her earn some money(since she always thinks she needs some)!
