  • Does unplugging electronics when not in use save money?

This is a new TicTok trend, but are there any savings?
The answer is yes, but the savings are hardly worth the effort.

An idle TV will draw around 35 cents worth of electricity in a month.
Other appliances will draw similar amounts of electricity.

If you want to save on your electric bill, there are much more practical ways to do it.

BJ - this is a fair point. And it might be fair to say that not all appliances are created equal. Also - in some parts of the country, such as Hawaii - electricity costs a lot more than the national average.

Also, in general isn't it a good idea to get in the savings mindset?

It's just good a good conservation mindset to have, in addition to saving money, no matter how little. Most wall worts (power bricks) consume power when they're plugged in, even if the device isn't in the use.
      History will judge the complicit.

It might be new on TikTok but the idea of unpluging TV's has been around a long time. I think it's pointless to chase those sorts of cents.

On the opposite side of things, my personal computer stays on 24/7/365. As does my modem, controller, switch, NVR (with 2 cameras), and NAS.

Honestly I'd consider powering down the PC, but there is some where memory issue with that motherboard (ASUS Crosshair Hero VI iirc) where it will randomly fail to load windows, requiring it to be powered on and off a couple of times. So I just leave it on.
