  • Rewards/cash back cards

I'm looking for a decent cash back card with no annual fees. We are planning to use it for consolidating our regular monthly spending and then paying it off. Also, rewards for all purchases, not just certain categories.

Anyone know of some good ones?

These are some I know of.

The overall best that is open to the public that I can find is the Alliant Credit Union Visa Signature card. 2.5% Flat on all purchases with a 59$ fee. It's rather hard to get unless you are well established and have a good income(it caters to people who spend $50k a year or more on a card). They give 3% flat for the first year with no fee.

Along with that card is Alliant Rewards (step down from the 2.5%) and it is a flat 2% with no fee.

Next to that is the Citi Double Rewards card that is 1% on purchases and 1% when you pay them off. So it's a 2% card as long as you are responsible with no yearly fee.

I guess what follows from here are the 1.5% flat cards like the Quicksilver card or Wells Fargo rewards card with no fee.

The yearly fee is not a big deal if the rewards wash it away, and then some. If you hit a point where you don't plan to use it, it will be an issue. The breaking point for the fee is $12,000 a year for the 2% vs 2.5%. At $12,000, 2% would yield $240, while 2.5% w/ a $59 fee yields $241.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

The only general use card I have without a fee is the Chase Freedom. You get unlimited 1% cash back on everything but certain categories get 5% that change every 3 months. They have some pretty good ones, like all grocery stores are earning 5% right now. Last time all internet/cable/phone bills earned extra. During the holidays it is usually Walmart or Amazon. They also have a shopping portal to earn more points, but I usually get a better deal shopping through different portals.

i forget which one, but there's a bank credit card that does 2.5% to 3% for everything, depending on how much money you have with them.

I use a fidelity 2% flat credit card for charges that would be otherwise 1%. The catch for that card is you need a fidelity investment account.

I use the Citi Double Cash card for any random expenses that don't fall into one of the special categories from one of my other cards. It's simple, and 2% back is decent.

Discover, Various chase cards - Freedom, Amazon, Slate.

I have always had cards with cash/rewards back. Never paid a fee to get or have a credit card. But then I never look to get another card, they come to me. If I want to juggle getting rewards, then I tend to do my charging with one card and pay it off each month. Whenever possible I try to hold onto my rewards until Christmas time towards gifts.

Lot's of good cards out there but not every card works well for everyone. I have the BofA Travel Rewards Visa card and my cash rewards are based on my total BofA deposits.

Like others, I charge EVERYTHING (I really mean almost everything) and simply pay it in full each month. I easily get $2,000. or more back in cash each year. As long as you can trust yourself to pay it off each month then charging everything is the way to go.

                It really is free money.

Besides an annual fee you should check and compare other conditions, like earning rates, ease of redemption, additional perks ect. You should decide what factor is the most important for you and choose the card. Actually, all depends on your expenses. Some cards are good for gas and groceries, like blue cash from American express. Some cards have a good promotion, like discover it, they provide a double cash back during the first year of cardmembership. If you travel abroad, you need a capital one quicksilver cash rewards as they have no foreign exchange frees. Make a list of 10 cash back cards and compare them by the mentioned parameters and you will find the best one for your case.
