When I first started to get a bonus, I would use it to replenish my self -managed "escrow" account simply because of timing.

When the bonuses started to be a higher amount (last 3-4 years), I ended up putting it towards my mortgage - and the regulars here know what happened from there.

This year, after all of the financial maneuvers with cash across various accounts going towards expenses, etc, the math worked out to where I basically ended up investing my bonus between my wife's 2016 Roth IRA and my taxable account.

I do not count on my bonus, but I like getting one and I do know what to do with it when it is paid out.

I get a bonus target of 10% of my salary. I could have gotten more, but I wanted more static salary for the time being, so that was at the cost of potentially more from a bigger bonus.

I am approaching my 1st year at a new job and the bonuses are as follows, up to 2000 per quarter for a renewal bonus, 500 a month growth bonus, an annual profit sharing bonus, yearly stock and several sales contests throughout the year with top prizes being a large item (tv, pressure washer, trailer (like you pull with a truck), money or trips.) For example I won 100$ extra a week for the last 8 weeks in a contest that is currently running.

Just out of curiosity, what to you people do to get these bonuses - in general? Not like you have to say you are the CEO of IBM. Other than my son getting his small bonuses when he worked as a manager at a grocery store, the only other person I have ever talked to that got a bonus was my brother. It was so large he GAVE each of us and my mom a check for $10K! Now that was a great surprise to find in the mail for sure.

What is a quarterly renewal bonus? Does that mean you get paid extra to keep working another three months? If so that is Amazing!

At the company I work for our clients/customers sign an agreement for 3-5 years for our products/service, I have certain accounts assigned to me and if an account has an agreement that lapses within the next 12 months it shows up on a report. I get the bonus by having them re sign before they show up on that report. If nobody is on the report I get 2k a quarter.

Hey that sounds terrific and it would certainly show that you are on top of things!
