Last fall I was spending money very foolishly. I was about to start my new job. I handed my 16 year old daughter my almost maxed out credit card, and asked her to buy me some new clothes for my job. She did a nice job. She looked for deals, and didn’t go overboard at all (IMO). But all she could buy for me was long sleeve shirts, because it was fall. I think she bought everything through the Land’s End web site.

Now that we’re entering short sleeve season in Michigan, I find myself in need of appropriate shirts to wear to my office. Since I’m trying to be more frugal, I’m not sure what to do.

Try Goodwill or other local thrift shops. You can often find quality items in excellent condition for a fraction of their retail price.

Thrift shops, eBay, Mercari, poshmark. If buying online be sure to check return policies and seller ratings.

        * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
        * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Why not...do nothing? If you have good quality clothing, you might as well as delay making any more purchases for the time being.

Because it’s going to be warmer outside, and I’ll be uncomfortable in long sleeves.

When I first posted about my debt and cash flow problems in February, DS told me to cut cable. And I refused, but I never said why. Here's why.

I'm a political junkie. Specifically, I'm an ex-Republican who left the Party in June 2016 after Trump's hostile takeover. I watch a lot of MSNBC. I especially enjoy Joe Scarabarough's "Morning Joe" and Nicole Wallace's "Deadline Whitehouse. Scarbarough and Wallace are also both ex-Republican's who left the Party because of Trump. I watch their shows whenever I can, and usually get at least 45 minutes of Morning Joe in before I go to work in the morning. I watch channel's other than MSNBC, too. I watch Jeopardy! on my local CBS channel, I watch Comedy Central sometimes, and MIchigan State sports on the B1G channel and network TV when they're on.

When I was at my girlfriend's this weekend, I explored Peacock just a little bit. From what I can see, I'd need to make a one-time purchase of an Apple TV box, and I could get Peacock premium for $9.99. So, I'm not sure if I could stream MSNBC shows live, or within a few hours, or what. But I could see doing that. I could watch MSU sports at my folks', except they don't get B1G.

Doe's anyone know about Peacock, and especially MSNBC on Peacock?

Can you watch it for free online? Why pay the $9.99 per month?

Not live, I know that. And just teaser segments, not the banter between the hosts between the segments, and that’s when Joe is at his best.

You don’t need Apple TV or Peacock premium to watch MSNBC. There are other options. Apple TV is probably the most expensive choice. The Amazon or Google or Roku devices are all cheaper.

We replaced Comcast with Sling which is $35/month and gives us pretty much all of the same channels including MSNBC and Comedy Central. We aren’t sports watchers so we chose the package that doesn’t include that but I think they’re other package does. I can’t speak to that.

Thanks. I’ll look at my options.

Would listening to their podcasts (for free) be an acceptable alternative?

Maybe. I know next to nothing about podcasts.

FWIW... I strongly prefer podcasts over TV/video. They're basically the modern equivalent of a radio show. You can listen to it anywhere, anytime, and while doing something else... rather than being strapped to your couch or focused on watching your cell phone screen. Podcast players abound, but the most commonly used are probably Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify. I mostly listen to podcasts on my commute to work, or while working around the house.

                            • Sling or youtube tv. Also most tvs now have the streaming channels included on the device and you don't need a roku, amazon, or apple tv device. Save you a couple bucks there. I think TV cheap entertainment for many people and I personally wouldn't cut cable. But take that with a grain of salt since we don't watch tv or even pay for streaming.

But we do pay for spotify. DH loves music and we've been paying $12 for years. Sigh. I can't get him off it. The spotify comes with free hulu which I guess is good but again we don't watch tv really.

TV is pretty cheap entertainment. The point is you don't need to pay the ridiculous prices the cable companies charge. Services like Sling get you the same stuff for way less.
